You mention Gunbuster, but that was rather pandering itself. At least, by the standards of its time.

I'm just glad we have another mecha show that doesn't look terrible right off the bat. :heh:

Reupload an higher quality version of trailer.

The main cast consist of 3 girls and 3 guys ready to be paired up with a girl. The trailer and promos for some reason don't show any of the guys at all. Its sad, since the guys are so hunky too...

Male characters never show up in promotional material.

A mecha series?

Hmm ... wasn't expecting that....

Alas, I didn't see the PV for this.

My initial guess at this (just from the Winter 2012 Anime season preview here) is that it will be a Super Robot show with a female dominated cast likely including yuri subtext.

Am I right? If so, I'm totally onboard. :heh:

If I could poof into existence a series, one would definite be a Yuri Super Robot show. Like Kannazuki no Miko, but the main couple does actually fight together, and maybe the robots actually matter to the plot.

I assuming the guys do not show up because they are the bad guys of the series. Either that or they are minor characters.

It's because Sunrise has the market on male mecha pilots cornered at the moment so all anybody else can muster is throwing lots of pilot chicks at us instead. :heh:

Sadly I'm probably actually onto something here though.

Mecha anime is always a "guy" thing, especially during the 90's where they didn't bother making an obligatory female member and instead made all male teams. The whole "GIRL POWER MECHA" didn't pick up much steam during the 90's if the doujin markets shown anything. The fact that Nova was extremely obscure didn't do them any favors. It is not to say girl power mecha doesn't sell but only the exoskeleton niche sells at the moment. Rinne could change that possibly

That said, Rinne is also playing it somewhat safe, not falling too fall into Strike Witches territory which does have the entire yuri fandom backing it up. Don't know if the male supporting cast will be bad guys or not. Maybe mission control or using weaker mechas.

Agreed. That's definitely something I'd like to see in an anime eventually. Doubt we'll get exactly that with Rinne no Lagrange, but I hope that it's something close to that at least. :heh:

It would be genuinely different, at least to the best of my knowledge.

There is also Strike Witches for your yuri needs.

I love Strike Witches. I really wish they would have seasons devoted to the rest of the Joint Fighter Wings (a series following the 31st JFS Storm Witches and the Afrika Corps would be epic too). Hell what I really wish is they would finally make Eila x Sanya cannon.

But then again, that is alternative history mecha shoujo, which has a different feel and style then a straight up mecha series.

Not much was said during Part I for Rinne no Langrange segment in joint event with Mouretsu Pirates [caps here ] in the Loft Plus One event. The funny part is when one of the staff mimicking Amuro from MSG for Madoka ("Weapon!! Does this thing has a weapon!?") and Char joke (This thing can go 3x). Other funny moment was when they introduce the three main characters (female) while the 3 males only got a small portion of the slide. Satou said "Sorry, just remember their name for now" or something like that :heh:

Looks like this anime is 2 cour as well, to be broadcasted during Winter and Summer 2012.

It's done by XEBEC, when DON'T you expect mecha or spaceships from them? :)

Oh, great... Do companies really have no money to animate 2 cours of episodes in a row anymore? :eyebrow: Or am I missing some sort of marketing tactic here? The Fate/Zero anime is based off a popular franchise, so it can afford to leave the fans hanging for a while, but Rinne no Lagrange is an original anime. They're going to have to really hook watchers in from the get go if they want to sustain popularity through a 3-month break.

They don't, no, which is why only recently we've begun to see regular 2-cour series again.

Stevie_Nix 2011-12-06 17:47

I wonder, does XEBEC plan on making the second season during the three month break or do they already have it made and are waiting for some reason? Perhaps they just couldn't get air time during spring? (How long out is the planned anyway?) Does XEBEC has anything else planed for Spring 2012?

I am quite sure if the series is good, which I hope, people will stick around for the three month hiatus.
