God of war: COO

Platform: PSP
Genre: Action/Adventure
Release Date: March 4th 2008
Publisher: SCE
Developer: Ready at dawn studios

God of War: Chains of Olympus is a prequel to the God of War series. It chronicles the various adventures of Kratos throughout the ten years he spent in servitude of the Gods (hence the game's name which implies a bond between the series' protagonist and the deities of Olympus) preceding the events of God of War.

The Official UK Playstation site reveals that, "Kratos will journey to lands that no mortal has ever walked upon. With the world plunged in eternal darkness and the gods rendered powerless, Kratos will face the most feared creatures of Greek mythology, and ultimately be forced to choose between his own personal redemption and saving the ancient world from certain destruction."

I never actually played God of war and only heard praises of it being the best action game on PS2. My interest has only recently been aroused, and now that the psp version is coming around the corner I've decided to give the series a shot. Kratos seems like a badass that could rival even Guts from Berserk. What surpised me is that IGN gave the game a review two weeks before it's even been released yet. Seeing as it got such a high rating, it's apparent to me that this is a must buy for the psp. Just wondering how many GOW fans are anticipating this title.

...and this ladies and gentlemen is a reason why developers barely make good games for the PSP. Piracy is an epic fail.

Pre-ordered my copy this past Tuesday after reading and watching the IGN review. Loved the games on the PS2, and this one will do the trick!

That's just wrong...

Hijiroku 2008-02-22 10:03

What is ISO???????

EXEs 2008-02-22 10:16

ISO is used by people who don't buy the games, like I for example. PSP must have special firmware though.

I believe in the "try, then buy" method, hence I wait for ISO (Shouldn't really be, seeing how God of War is so damn well reviewed). And I'm an extremely immoral, kitten-killing, and "scum to society" bastard. Aren't I optimistic :)

kimchipride 2008-02-22 16:11

I can't wait for the iso either! :D

Finally some good games on the PSP

War_Lord 2008-02-22 21:36

That was a pretty biased statement, it really depends on what you think is good. Then again, if you don't count ports and remakes then I guess I see what you mean.

A new reason to buy a PSP, God of War is a great game

Phantasmagoria 2008-02-23 07:46

Lol, I bought my PSP but never really gave it any touch.. [I was crazy over Disgaea though.]
Looking forward to God of War and FFVII:CC.

I heard Elder Scrolls and Devil May Cry are coming to PSP, can somebody else back this rumour up?

EXEs 2008-02-23 10:14

Holy shit, I got the demo, and it's fucking crazy. Graphic-wise, other games CANNOT compare. This game, I just might buy.

King Lycan 2008-03-01 17:34

Just read that God of wars is a 5 hour game i "was" gonna buy the game but not anymore gonna download the ISO :heh:

shinobiknight0 2008-03-01 19:49

February and March are good times for the PSP, I've been playing the demo over and over waiting for it to come out.

Well, I guess that ruins any hopes that this might be ported to the PS2/PS3 (which happened to the PSP Ratchet and Clank game), at least as an actual game with a box.

Can someone tell me how the controls...control (i.e. are combos still usable with the PSP button scheme, etc.). If nothing else, it looks great.

Snuffle 2008-03-05 15:14

I searched for reviews and was able to find out that the game is 5-7 hrs (based on what King Lycan read and what I read). I'm still planning to buy this, maybe this Friday, I really want to know more about Kratos back story, plus I know my lil'bro wants to play it too ;).

BTW... Out of curiosity, how much MB does an UMD hold?

My main concern with this game tho, is if there is any lag... based on the review I read, there is basicly no load times unless you were to backtrack and not go on with the story.

War_Lord 2008-03-05 16:30

I believe umds hold about 1 gig of storage. With that and the high quality graphics into mind, it's only natural for the game to be a little short.

It can hold 900 MB with a single layer UMD and 1.8 GB if it's a double layer. If you want a source, here's one.
