Newtype January issue announced a new manga series to be serialized on Shonen Ace magazine
The new Newtype issue also mentions that the story script is fully written by anime director Gorō Taniguchi. The same guy who was the director of both S1 and S2 of the Code Geass anime. Also, The story takes place in the Edo era.
Brief overview -
Quote:

The January issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine is announcing on Thursday that Tomomasa Takuma (Code Geass: Nightmare of Nunnally, Kurogane Communication) is drawing a manga that is tentatively titled Code Geass: Shikkoku no Renya (Code Geass: Jet-Black Renya or Code Geass: Renya of the Blackness) next year. Goro Taniguchi, the director and story co-creator of the original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion television anime series, created the new manga's story concepts and is scripting the story. This is the first manga that Taniguchi is directly scripting himself.

The story takes place in the same official Code Geass history as the anime, but in a different era. The title character, Renya, is a 17-year-old boy with a mechanical left arm and shuriken throwing stars as his weapons of choice. The story begins when Renya encounters a mysterious, perpetually young witch named "Reifū C.C." C.C. has appeared in Japan's historical Edo era to seek a new partner for a covenant. Meanwhile, a mysterious man, with a striking resemblance to the character Lelouch of the original anime, also appears with unknown intentions.

The new manga is part of next year's new Code Geass project launch. Code Geass producer Yoshitaka Kawaguchi revealed on the franchise's website that the new project will feature the simultaneous releases of serialized comics, music, new products under development, and visual works.

Sweetness, now it's got its own thread. Yep, I'm really looking forward to this, and I hope we get news and details some time in early 2010 (Please don't make us wait till late Summer or Fall of 2010 Sunrise, you trollish bastards)

TrueElements 2009-12-06 03:26

I am wanting to be hopeful about it, but I find it hard to be til we have some details or idea at least of what this will be, like an OVA of after R2, or "redo" of R2 could be very good, but something else not sure how I would feel about it.

This show is a cash cow. And any studioes in their right mind, especially Sunrise, wouldn't abandon a cow that gives cash. Look at Gundam for better example. Few of us already predicted that it was just a matter of time. I'm happy for the Code Geass fans even though I personally don't think much about this series. Don't think about jumping me. I'll bite you and give you rabies.

Rising Dragon 2009-12-06 03:32

You mean rabies.

*flees*

TrueElements 2009-12-06 03:32

I could see them quickly turning one of the mangas sidestorys into a anime tho.

To be fair, Gundam wasn't exactly a cash cow when it first aired.

Ah, this again. To be quite honest, I really really REALLY hope they don't do this. Maybe it's just me, but I think it would probably be very boring if they just did an anime adaptation of Non or SotC.

Solmiki 2009-12-06 03:48

i hope the new project is about Nightmare of Nunally :D
Nunally does indeed deserves her own show!~

So long as Bandai's still working with them on this, you need not worry about Suzaku of the Counterattack being animated.

I don't follow.

Well, the way I hear it, NoN is the best CG manga anyway, so yeah, I'd prefer that over SotC.

August 10, 2010,

That's because you started another thread in the Licensed Section prior to posting a request for it here. :p Thread was moved here and merged. Anyway, remedied.

Bandai wants models. Things that they can make a profit off of. In Code Geass, that means Knightmare Frames.

Suzaku of the Counterattack lacks Knightmare Frames.

Ergo, Bandai doesn't want Suzaku of the Counterattack.

It was obviously popular enough to warrant a continuation and in anime industry the synoym for popularity is cash.

Only when it was aired for re-runs. First time through, it got its ass canceled.
