Rosario+Vampire Manga

http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/4402/001jz1.jpg

Shounen manga serialized in Jump by IKEDA Akihisa.

Synopsis from mangaupdates:

By a bizzare coincidence, Tsukune Aono has accidentally gotten himself admitted to a youkai acadamy, a school attended by monsters (youkai). Just when he thinks he'll run away from there, he meets the beautiful girl Moka and his mood turns ultra happy. However, she transforms into her true form when the rosary on her chest is taken off, she's a super vampire!

------------------

Not a bad manga. It's not exceptional or anything, but it's entertaining enough. It does have some very typical shounen moments, but the artwork is good enough to keep me reading. :heh: And the plot thickens in volume 4 and onwards.

Forbin 2007-05-22 22:41

Too bad Zombie zone doesn't work on it too often. I have a raw of vol 6 and it looks Very interesting.

ZZ is still on 3 if I remember right.

It becomes a harem by Vol 2 and I like reading about all the mythological creatures in each chapter.

physics223 2007-05-23 10:13

I love the succubus, whatever her name was. AT LEAST SHE DIDN'T WANT TO SUCK AONO'S BLOOD. :(

Riker 2007-05-23 11:18

I bought up to volume 8 of this series (I think I buy too much manga...) :/

To be honest, the first few volumes were rather dull and repetive. Aono gets into trouble, he pulls off Moka's rosary, super vampire saves the day. Rinse and repeat. The witch arc in volume 4 was decent though. The plot picked up around volumes 5 and 6 (especially volume 6, good stuffs), however volume 7 somehow left me somewhat disappointed. And judging from the story progression in volume 8, this series seems to be ending soon, unless the mangaka wants to drag on and write another arc.

cangri21 2007-06-01 19:09

ok so far i really like it and only read to chapter 12 because the damn has not been translated but o well gotta wait and see. By the way I heard they were going to animate this when they do i hope they stick closely to the manga especially the developing relationship between Tsukune and Moka because we know they care for each other in more than just being friends not having just drag it out like othere series do.

musashiken 2007-10-21 19:39

Finally bought and read volume 10. Apparently, the author does want to drag on the series. Volume 10 is the last volume of the first arc, and the author is continuing with the 2nd arc as we speak.

The only good thing I can think of is that when the anime comes out next year, it probably won't deviate much from the manga since there's already a complete arc for them to animate. Unless they really really want a different ending.

As for the first arc of the manga, it was pretty decent. Nothing too fancy but it is as complete as a story arc can get. I can only guess what the author is planning for the 2nd arc.

so did Tsukune fix his 'problem'?

The only major problem I have right now with this series is that since the magazine it was published in had to call it quits, R+V has to switch to another mag, and we won't see a new chapter until somewhere around early November. Anyway, it might give Ikeda Akihise more time to draw stuff and spend more thought on what will follow next.

ZODDGUTS 2007-10-25 12:57

I thought the series was also decent in the beginning but it started to get good when you know what hapeens to the main character. I'm hoping the manga-ka will get rid of the the "monster of the week" and end up putting more story arc.

LesAmiesNoir 2007-10-26 07:25

I just recently looked up the first three volums, I didn't get that attached to it since it really appeard to lack plot. But now when you all say that the plot thickens I'm more interested to see how things go. Somehow though, I can imagine that I wouldn't mind this made into an anime, it would suit it. However so far it lacks explanation to such an extent that I've almost given up on finding one. In the beginning the "randomness" was all over the place. But well I'll try to read up further, since apperently it gets better...

Wouldn't mind? You mean, can't wait! Haha, go look in Unaired and you will see the series by Gonzo.

Forbin 2007-12-06 21:16

BTW V4 has been translated and it appears the group is starting on R+V II which already has the 4th girl from the Anime that I am not familiar with.

LCeh 2007-12-11 23:16

The first major story has ended. The mangaka has started on a sequel, which is basically a second major arc.

Renegade334 2007-12-12 01:08

It is not a sequel per se; R+V's new arc is only named Season II because the series had to switch magazines when Monthly Shonen Jump was put out of service and thankfully replaced by Jump Square SQ. S2 simply picks up where S1 left off; I doubt we'll even see mention of S2 anywhere in the volumes as it is of no consquence to the publishing/printing companies...

Oh, and, btw, according to SimonSays.com, the following titles have just been licensed by Viz:

Ahh I see. Thanks for the clear up.

One simple word; yes.

Spoiler for ch. 20:

--> Hm, Is it true that this one is getting a sequel?

Forbin 2008-01-01 16:51

beyond true, I've seen the first chapter of R+V II

Renegade334 2008-01-03 13:18

Spoilers beware.
Spoiler for for those who've read beyond volume six:
For information, the first TV ep was released today.

And about the so-called 'sequel':
Spoiler for what actually happened to R+V:

NoOneKnowS 2008-01-04 03:11

Meh, this series is starting to get annoying for me (It's was rather ok to me at first thanks to the fanservice and the cliche harem set-up). It's good that tsukune got some spine now but meh; he's too cheesy. And annoying as hell on how he treats Moka. Meh; whatever.

-Nyu- 2008-01-05 09:32

I quite enjoyed the series so far, just the first 3 volumes were a bit to repititive as pointed out.
I just wonder what relationship the vampire moka really has to Tsukune.
Spoiler:

bbduece 2008-01-05 18:17

monster version of ichigo100%?, so in the end he will end up with the snow women or the witch...i guess the vamp is out of luck if the mangaka is heading that direction, if not we all know he will end up with moka....

blitzx 2008-01-05 18:58

tsukune is going evil-mode ?
waiting for next release

Renegade334 2008-01-06 10:47

If I were you I wouldn't even try to compare this to Ichigo 100%. So far the focus has not put much importance on which girl is the alpha female in the so-called harem and I expect it'll stay like that for a looong time. R+V lacks this facet of character relationship and hasn't indulged itself in some 'I dumped N°1 to date N°3 because N°2 was unavailable or hurt by my sentiments'. If anything, the girls around Tsukune are more prone to have a catfight for more quality time with mister wuss-turned-ghoul than go angst in a corner.

The only times where there was resentment between certain characters were
Spoiler for volume 4/5 and onwards:
As for chapter three of 'season 2':

lol yea would have been happy even if it were 1 extra page:p
quite the cliffhanger

NoOneKnowS 2008-01-06 20:26

What a great turn of events. I'm starting to get pissed of at Tsukunes cheesiness. I'm glad he went evil-mode. Good thing for a change. Now R+V is not you're typical harem. Rather a Darker type of harem.

KickHopper 2008-01-06 21:47

Does it ever say who the bus driver is?

To me, he really looks similiar to the

Kinda took me by suprise that silver moka actually gives a crap about him.

well won't wait to long, because 24 is already out.

Nemesis 2008-01-08 11:42

Just caught up to the manga, and whew, i think Tsukune had made a really bad choice in falling in love with Moka in the first place.

He reliquished humanity and his human life for that?Ive got a feeling that,he may not return to the human world eventually cause of this.

TigerII 2008-01-08 11:48

I still wouldn't call this a love or harem manga.

I mean he does have a harem, but he has never seriously looked at the other girls beyond friends. I think it is kinda obvious who he likes.

I took the main theme as a monster hunter type manga with a background theme of accepting those not like you. Embracing diversity.

The small romance part is just for some more plot.

That does not mean it can't be a harem anime. Although not universal, its obvious in lots of harem show who the male lead likes from very the start.

I guess its one of those thing you can take from it what you want. I look at it as just the opposite. I see the manga as a romantic comedy, with the moster theme just a secondary, background element. ;)

I thought romantic comedy with monster theme as background too, but lately that ain't really the case anymore. Its rather a little more darker lately I think but still very interesting so will just have to wait and see how it pans out.......but just like with everything else....always just waiting, waiting, waiting:(

TigerII 2008-01-08 14:21

md I wouldn't say light comedy anymore. Not with the ghoul think always present. This has taken a darker turn. But again, this is what I took from it. My oinion varies from others.
