Hi guys. I've just bought a MG Hyaku Shiki HD limited ed. (well, that's what they say, I honestly don't think it's that limited to begin with, since BANDAI = $), and since it's my first MG, I'm clueless about decals. I've seen websites with tutorials about dry decals, water ones and so on, but I really don't want to screw up and of course, the manual doesn't help me on this.

Since this MG brought a lot of decals of what I would assume are from different kinds, could anyone point me how to apply them according to these pictures?:

i.e: The decals in the green sheet are water-based, so you apply them by etc etc etc.

If you like to provide some additional links or personal experiences applying them, I'm open to learning about them.

guys!! is there markers which i can use two paint the clear red part on the 00??

They can't. That particular model's beam claws were custom made using the full sword hands. There's another model out, though, that includes the separate finger version. I think its the Damashii model.

The individual claws on the Damashi are round, not flat though.

hrm.. icic. so i guess that guy probably sliced the claws apart? looks pretty cool that way. =)

I guess my explanation wasn't that clear. I know that the Damashii model had the round blades; my statement was that I thought it was the Damashii model that had included finger blades. As I said before, the linked model review had custom-made beam claws.

Those claws were not custom made, its the exact same piece that was included with the kit. It's just the modeller decide to cut and seperate them apart. He then repainted the entire thing to give it a feel of intensity.

... yeah. That's kinda what I meant by custom-made. As in, he customized it himself.

Or you can simply use the term "modded".

That's site pretty much has all you need to know on how to apply them. I've only just started using dry transfer decals myself, so I'm not too experienced with them, but they're easy enough to apply with a little patience.

Basically, the dry transfer decals are the decals that have a piece of parchment/wax paper behind them, and for many of my kits, will come off on your hands if you're not careful!
So, carefully trim out the decal you need, and put the decal down on the piece, and cover it tightly with a piece of scotch tape. The rough side of the decal should be on the piece, just so you know. After the tape is tightly attached, take a toothpick, DS stylus, paintbrush, anything with a point to it, and rub over every single molecule of the decal's area over and over and over. Seriously, do it constantly for about two minutes, at least. And when you think you've done it enough, do it some more! If you rubbed it on well enough, you can gently remove the tape, and the decal should be left on the surface. Pull the tape off extremely slowly, so if any of the decal didn't stick, you can set it back onto the piece without screwing up it's placement. If all is done right, the decal should be stuck on perfectly. Thankfully for me, Bandai was generous enough to include two versions of the same symbols, because I screwed up at least three times with applying. Hey guys, Hobby Search now has both Crossbone R1 and R2 RDs out for reservation. I'm contemplating getting Masurao and either one of the Xs. Any suggestions?

Apparently they will have similar arnaments. The X2 is however at 3610 yen while the X1 is at 2850 yen though, so I'm not too sure.

First, thank you for your useful answer, I'll check that site out and see what I can learn from it. On another subject, your F91 looks REALLLY good. I always wanted to get it, but I dunno if it has good articulation or maybe it's too small for a MG and I should get and additional action base for it (and I'm currently tight on my budget). Besides, I'd have to get Zeta 2.0 and RX-78-2 2.0 before F91, since I liked the movie and LOVED that gundam but not as much as the previous series mentioned.

Now, to the important matter: I still want to make sure that I got things right, so I uploaded the images on another server so anyone can tell me (if they are in the mood) which decals are which (i.e: the blue one with the silver letters is dry or water? the blue one in the upper left is water-based, etc)...sorry for the inconvenience but I have doubts and don't wanna screw up.

According to the manual, both the sheets with the blue background are waterslides. As a general rule-of-thumb, sheets with green backgrounds are stickers, blue backgrounds are waterslides and translucent ones are dry transfers.

so they are mainly water-based, as I thought? Then I'm in trouble, since I believe they are the most difficult to apply. Btw, the green sheet seems like stickers to me, but when I tried to remove them, they wouldn't come off easily as say the eyes or the green stuff in the helmet that belongs to the silver sticker sheet.

I dunno man... During the AFA08, I planned to buy the MG G-3 Gundam... but the colors were.... meh....

It looks nice to me. It's a limited edition too which is the main reason why I want it. The price just kills though because the normal OYW kit is only like $35 at most.

There is a slot underneath the pelvis you can mount it on, plus it has a second slot on its lower back (the same place you can mount the GN Mega Launcher on the Gadessa).

or you can just buy the normal one for $35 and paint it grey and light blue, save your self a good $40.

Water based im my opinion are the best out of the stickers because un like the dry or normal style decals if you dont get the decal in a nice even position you can move it as long as its still wet.

all you need is a small pair of scissors, a little bowl of warm water tweezers and a q-tip.
Just cut out the decal (dont try to take off the paper)
stick it in the water
wet the q-tip squeeze out the water so its not dripping
dab the area you want to place the decal
use the tweezers to pick up the decal from the water
then use the q tip to slide the decal away from the paper backing
adjust the decal to your licking.

quick and easy once you get the hang of it. and by no means do you have to use all the decals that came with the kit. sometimes to many can ruin it. and you dont have to follow the placement of the decals just put them to your liking.

and regarding the decals with the green backing, those are in deed normal stickers, try to bend the paper at one of seams of the sticker to get it to pop out a bit.

Paint and decals cost money too :(

Dynavee Gundam? Sounds corny.

I have that, got it in Hong Kong at the expo for HKD$320/USD$40. The more drab colors really emphasis how cool the OYW RX-78 is - its a very much a machine with lines and panels, the very opposite of cartoony like the Ver2.0. But if you look on dalong.net there seem to be several G3 "limited" so I don't think they're really that rare.

Three semi-related questions:


*Are there any metallic-paint HCMPro figures, aside from the SP edition of the Exia? Right now, it's the only HCMPro I have, but I don't really like the ones I've seen without metallic paint.

*Are any of the 'enemy' mobile suits from 00 in the HCMPro (1/200) scale? It would be neat to have a unit to be a counterpart to the SP-005...

*Aside from in HG, is there any word on what other lines the Exia R2 will be released in?

(I may just stick with the HG anyway, but it would be nice to know.)

That looks absolutely nothing like a Damashii Alvaaron.

I hear it's a modded MG kit.

I always wondered why they never released this (and I don't think that the mobile armor is a good enough reason)....the mod version looks really good.
