A beautiful love story with a fitting ending
no old art animation please :)
|
Ai Yori Aoshi would be one of my favourite romance focused stories of all time. Lamune is right up there, too. Both are definitely what I would consider beautiful stories, as opposed to say, Lovely Complex, which while an excellent romance, focuses too much on the comedy side to be 'beautiful' . . . but of course, that depends how you define things.
Maybe give some examples of stuff you've seen for comparison? |
ai yori aoshi- DEFINIETALLY
this is the BEST romance anime i have ever watched! I'm still crying after about 2 months have passed since i watched it...it was so beautiful... theres also a 2nd season but i forget what it is called |
Ai Yori Aoshi had potential, but it soon degraded to typical harem anime. The ending is not exactly satisfying either :)
Lamune - the most heart-warming thing you will ever see. Slow paced story about two childhood friends in a seaside rural town, slowly moving from simply friends to something more. Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora - romance/drama in a hospital setting. Gift ~Eternal Rainbow~ - romance/drama with a wee bit of fantasy. Canvas 2 - romance/drama. One of my favorites. If you don't mind something more dramatic: Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu - romance/drama/SciFi Air the Movie - romance/drama |

Spoiler for just in case:
Your other suggestions, though, are all good. Though I think Gift is just "Da Capo 3/Alternative" =p Hantsuki is definitely right up there. Iriya is a recent favourite, too. Very touching series. |

I also found the first season ending entirly satisfying. I admit the second season was not quite as good (although I still found the Tina arc especially touching), but the season two ending was not nearly as good as season one. If anyone did like the anime of Ai Yori Aoshi, I would stronly suggest reading the manga. The english version of the 17th and final volume of that series is due out next month, and the manga brings the whole story or Kaoru and Aoi to an actual climax. Quote:

I might also recomend REC. It's a "real life" romance about a 20-something office worker thrown together by chance with a young female seiyu. |

Spoiler:
Gift and Da Capo are not that similar, besides the basic plot outline. Da Capo is a full blown harem, Gift is a love triangle. First season of Da Capo is riddled with filler episodes and rather poorly paced. Gift gets straight to the point and is good at it, plus it features on of the best male leads you can get to see in such shows. |
currently checking them all out keep them coming please :)

School Days!
Ok, fine. Kanon. |
seen cannon.
School days doesnt seem interesting anymore with such a sex-only minded protagonist. |
If you want a "fitting" ending, then I would recommend against Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora. It's fitting in a way that it's logical, but I don't think that it's what you have in mind, especially the "beautiful love story" part.
For this thread I would recommend REC, Love Hina (Again), Nodame Cantabile, NHK ni Youkoso!, Onegai Teacher, Onegai Twins, and Gravitation. |
School Days - Love Triangle with a fitting (tragic) ending...
|
Victorian Romance Emma - both seasons, you'll have to see the 2nd season for the ending
Saiunkoku Monogatari - the second season is still airing but the 1st one is a good ending by itself Full Moon wo Sagashite - even though this isn't completely a love story, the ending is beautiful |

suzuka is one top of my head, cant think of any thing else, ill edit wen i do
|
Sola I thought this was a really well done romance with fantasy elements.
A lot of people like Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien but I personally recommend staying AWAY from this one. I have never hated the main character of a show before this one...(just a warning) |
Fate/Stay Night
|
While Kimi ga Nozomu Eien can have a fitting ending, the other half of the shippers will hate it.
|
saw Lamune and i have to say....I LOVE IT. Are there any similar anime to these?
|
I, third REC. Best 90 minutes you spent on an anime.
