This one looks intriguing. Has a lot of potential too. First "customers" were in for an unpleasant surprise. This slightly reminds me of Danganronpa. It's certainly unusual enough to give it a try. |
Wow. Best premiere of the season? Hah - I'll be happy if I see a better premiere this year.

Well that was certainly a feel-good first episode. And then the OP ended.
I guess the big question is what the real rules of the game are. Decim said that the game decides who goes to heaven or hell, but he never says it's the winner who goes to heaven. Since Mitchy won but ended up in the void, that either means playing to win is judged immoral, or Decim just decides the outcome based upon his own judgement. Of course it's also interesting that the husband didn't go to heaven but merely got reincarnated. I assume that means there are three possible outcomes, and not that Decim was lying about heaven being a possibility. |
AOTS.
So good I don't know where to start from. From the OP, I guess. Best OP of the season so far. |
The psychological thrill is damn awesome. xD Since Machiko was sent to the void despite having won the game I am guessing that the result of the game itself has no real purpose (unless winning it makes you go to the void and losing it gives you a chance at reincarnation?lol). I'm still not sure whether Machiko really told the truth at the end or not but I don't see why she would lie at this point. I expect further exposition next week. Definitely hooked on this!

Nothing to add: very good execution and the atmosphere was certainly effective.
One interesting thing is Decim's reaction when Machiko let the bombshell. It seems like Decim really has to decide based on the actions taken by the souls who are judged. Makes me wonder if the result would have been the same if Machiko kept her innocent facade to the very end. |
Not sure whether Machiko let herself start rattling off because of a sort of defense mechanism or whether she was telling the truth that she had an affair. It's a bit hard to tell who's right but i have a feeling that the judgements made by the bartender aren't always the truths.
Now, which is better? The void or being reincarnated... hmm. I wonder if the show will go into this. Not my favorite anime premiere but this is certainly unique. |
There is no reason for the narrative to "lie" to the audience by showing Machiko's memory, showing her naked with an unknown man.
So it is heavily implied she did have an affair with another guy, although it also seems like she does care about Takashi to some extent. |
Wonderful, one of my favorite episodes from this season and if it keeps it this up, an easy contender for anime of the season.
The first episode was well crafted imo from start to finish with the mind game. I call it more of a mind game rather than just darts since they are playing with their lives on the line. More importantly is how they react to each other after learning the truth. And wow, that OP song was quite refreshing. ED is good too and I think after the credits, we see two other main characters. I'm pretty sure we will get other version of the ED songs too. Great show so far. Keep it up Madhouse. |

There might not be a reason to lie but a psychological story is suppose to make you think. It wouldn't be psychological if it was that straightforward. |
Best anime this year so far, best op so far, will be hard to beat this one
Like in the original one, I still dont get how he decides to where each soul go, and how she smiled before saying that she cheated left me wonder if it was true or not |
