This should be interesting......

Oh man, while this episode was amusing and drawing parallels between Sena and Yozora, it also shows the very reason why I hardly stand the latter, to the point it was sometimes a bit hard to be amused by Yozora's humiliating speeches.
At least the whole Karaoke sequence put a lot of jabs here and there, and it certainly shows how awkward the club is, despite they more or less fulfilled their objective :heh: |
Again like the contrast between Kodaka team and Sena + Yozora struggling, one enjoyes other don't. At the end Sena's smile hijacker the episode ending.
Poor Maria... now she knows how Index feel on England :heh:. |
BokuTomo 06 - Alone Together/Together Alone
Of all the kinds of episodes a series can have, a karaoke episode ranks way high up there. It's all about music. Music is one of the primary reasons why I love anime fandom, so of course it's going to appeal to me. I was surprised most of the first half was spent on getting there. This is a troublesome group if they have trouble even getting everyone to go on an outing. By "everyone", I mostly mean Yozora and Sena. The rest of the group seems pretty agreeable. There was no surprising song choices like Kannagi's, or embarrassing performances one door over like A Channel's (I did enjoy Rika's musical fellatio. And there's a term I never thought I'd use.), but Yozora and Sena's solo duet was... kind of touching. It's like how people in a movie can sing the same song despite being miles apart. Which is probably a metaphor for something. |
There are some significant changes in this episode.
First time I've seen emotion (sweat) appearing on characters in this series and there are some subtle changes in the art I can't quite pinpoint. Hooray for some simultaneous conversation, too! That's how a club of multiple people's like. |
Lol yozora and sena are such idiots for such a supposedly cunning(yozora) and intelligent(sena) pair of people.
|
I was expecting Yozora and Sena's plan to be to rent 6 rooms for one person each (at the same price as one room for 6 people) and then all of them go into the same room. This way they sing together but the karaoke parlor can't rent out the other 5 rooms. I guess that line of thinking was too logical and not vindictive enough for those two.
Also, that finishing move by Rika was delicious. |
Ah much better than last week...half-way finished now.
First of all I need to comment on Rika. Usually I hate lecherous characters, and while her perverted "humor" is still there, she has stayed rather in-control and refrained from going very over-the-top these past two episodes. If this keeps up for the latter half, I give mad props. Next this episode just goes to show that Yozora and Sena are becoming buddies despite how much they quarrel with one-another. There's a saying that says "good friends always fight", and that's pretty much what we're being shown here. It's amusing that the club is accomplishing their goal while completely believing they haven't made any progress at all. Finally, the way the insert song was done was excellent. They didn't devote an entire meaningless 3 or 4 minutes to the song wasting the viewers' time with something they could watch or listen to elsewhere, they cut it down and used it as a way to confirm that Yozora and Sena do have lingering romantic feelings for Kodaka. So it seems some developments are brewing, Sena's father wants to meet with Kodaka. I wonder why that is? Doesn't look like the next episode will be getting to that right away though judging from the preview, kind of a shame. |
This episode is a little more serious with a big focus on Yozora's and Sena's relationship with Kodaka. Also, Maria wasn't in the episode, and the other three rightfully stayed as comedic relief without cluttering the plot. Good episode.

Good episodes, Less joke but it shows us how Yozora and Sena feeling towards Kodaka, builds up future story with P... Sena's father introduction.
I like it how they extend how Kobato's trying to solve the quiz, she's too cute. And I like Rika keeps being awesome with her pervert comment (and the "Love Mic Finish" :p The karaoke scene is great too. Yukimura as I thought singing an enka, and surprisingly Kodaka has good voice here. Though no singing Kobato? And since Maria was there on the prologue/OVA, I thought they will add her too here ^^ Judging by the next episode title and preview, it's about the silent cellphone chapter? Still hoping for story relay though >.> |
Obligatory "They aren't following the manga/light novels!" post. To be fair, the episode itself was a good adaptation of the corresponding chapter, largely because this is the first time where they devoted an entire episode to a single chapter. And on some levels, it worked better than the manga since we could hear everyone singing.
But man, they skipped a lot of stuff to get to this point -- something like three or four chapters worth of material. [mod edit: moved rest of post to Spoiler & Speculation thread] |
Any episode that spends more time explaining Yozora/Kodaka's childhood is a good episode in my book. Two thumbs up! :heh:
|
good episode, though i never expected the karaoke would be taking the whole episode, probably for promoting image songs.
[mod edit: moved second half of post to Spoiler & Speculation thread] |
This was pretty good fun, I would say better than last ep but I thought last ep was pretty good as well.
Midonin mentions A Channel which I recall as a recent favorite for karaoke episode, I was especially fond of Nagi's performance:p I have to admit that Yozora's trolling of Sena is hard to say whether I like it or not. See, I think it's not pleasant yet I can't help but like when Sena runs off, cursing Yozora, it's oddly cute. But then Sena got a little back at the end, house vists and meeting family is big stuff. Meat eating meat?!:heh: p.s Couldn't believe I saw the train driver peering out of his cabin, who would have thought they would put in such a small but rather detailed tidbit. Stuff like that I can enjoy oddly enough......expect then the train went off in the other direction(?) lol |
I want to remind anyone that all speculation about future content based on knowledge of light novels or manga must go to the Spoilers & Speculation thread, even if you're being vague. Some of the posts above are extremely borderline. Remember that no spoilers are allowed in anime episode threads.
Edit: I moved a bunch of posts (and parts of posts) to said thread now. |
Sena-sama looks good in any outfit.
I liked how she got back at Yozora about the meeting with Papa stuff. |
So who was solving the "quiz" except me ? :D
Spoiler for Quiz:
|
We got to hear every single character sing... except Kobato. I feel cheated :(
I didn't enjoy Sena and Yozora's bickering as much this time around, as it was closer to one-sided bullying on Yozora's part. She takes it too far sometimes. Thankfully, that was just a small part of the episode, they got to fight on even ground at the karaoke. Sena even managed to get back at her at the end of the episode, although it doesn't really make up for what she had to endure earlier. |
I don't really like how Yozora treats Sena. I'm sure if Kodaka tell her to shup up, she will. Kodaka should say something about that insted of thanking her about the club and all.
Also, I like how Kodaka didn't listen to Yozora and Sena and went with a room for the four of them :D And Kobato is really cute :3 |
^^ Rika kissing the mic was hilarious.
Flashback gave us more info regarding Yozora and Kodaka's past. The duet between Sena and Yozora, in separate rooms, was nicely done, but the recycling of scenes and visual inconstancy of some of the characters gave me the impression that they had to scale back the production costs. Overall good episode. |
okay! I'll just need to wait for character song.... lol
never expect a karaoke scene can be this good (I read the manga and find out it's boring but the anime just done it lots better) too bad... I want Kobato to sing too.... love Yozora and Sena's face when they find out they're going to sing alone... lol and of course Yozora's jealous face in the end is the best.... C'mon Kodaka!! try harder to remember your childhood friend... lol and also Yozora's bullying is getting worse... poor Sena... xD Spoiler for quiz:
|
It was another funny episode but I'm starting to get annoyed at Yozora bullying Senna like that. I don't mind when Senna is talking back and holding her own but it's irritating when Yozora just brutally humiliates her. It's just not funny.

Kobato!!! OMG! my saccharine levels hit red... so cute sleeping peacefully on her brother's back  despite the constant bitch-fighting around her :frustrated:
That aside from obsessing over kindergarden math, and sleeping on her brother's side... I need a BD-extra Sleeping with Kobato and Kana-chan occasionally delivering irresistibly incomprehensible sleep-talking (border-line stoner) line  But, unfortunately, that was the almost only good part of the episode, the storytelling dragged a lot, if not being all over the place in this episode. Up until now introducing characters gave to the episodes a focus, and I should have guessed based on the previous one, that moving away from that formula would give the writers a lot of problems to deliver 2-3 chapters per episode. Also Rika's mic kiss finish, and Yukimura's blushing being featured in the preview, lost their impact in the actual episode, though the "I might become a masochist, if talk to me with that voice" was quite a good line... thumb up to Rika > Yomi-chan :p Quote:
Spoiler for bitching problem solved:

Not a bad episode. Can't give a 10 just b/c according to preview, we're already moving to Vol. 3...
At least for once the Yozora-Sena bickering is actually funny. Rika is Rika and need to appear MUCH more, Kobato still doesn't appear enough, Yukimura is Yukimura as usual, aka nothing outstanding. Still doesn't change the fact that they'll skip half of Vol. 2...I guess they want to move all the way to Vol. 4 with 12 episodes (Don't see why, though, especially when end of Vol. 3/beginning of Vol. 4 is the turning point...) |
@Yozora's usual insults:
http://www.allmystery.de/dateien/mg4...-not-funny.jpg. Back to the episode: Kobato is so dang adorable which made it alone worth to watch the episode. Her grabbing, asleep, lightly the shirt of her Onii-chan at the beginning was cute :D. Poor Rika when Kodaka didn't get the hint of a duo karaoke trip (although it might be healthier for him on how it turned out). As a great anti-fan of mathematics I didn't find the the riddled arrival times funny despite how much of basic maths it is and Kobato seemed to agree on this idea. The karaoke competition between Sena and Yozora was the only point where I could actually see that something friend-ish is between them, too bad Yozora had to ruin it again on the open street (see picture above). Sena's "Whether Kodaka visits my house or visits my father, it has nothing to do with you, Yozora" totally owned Yozora at the end. The small reminiscence of both about Kodaka during their karaoke scenes was quite good. |
Not so much in the comedy department, unless you are sociopathic to laugh at Sena and Yozora finding themselves alone in their own karaoke booths after their little plan backfired.
But it is much more important when you realize that, touch by touch, the episode shows you how Kodaka is far from being the weakest link of the group and is important to both Sena and Yozora. While Yozora started the club, it is Kodaka who by his presence and actions in past weeks helped to stick the group together. Without him, it is quite clear that Yozora and Sena would have quite the mother of all clashes and made the club implode. |
Ah Sena...always 1 upping your opponent in the end. The duet was beautiful though if unintentional...
I wonder how Rika even functions as a normal person...no wait, she doesn't and thus owns everything else Quote:

^ I know that Kobato is almost legal, but I can not treat any of Kana's characters more than pet-intelligent, therefore cute ;)
Plus, Kobato, along with Nanako and Aoi this season keep reminding me how much I miss my cat :( instead of my last girlfriend |

that aside, pretty well adapted episode I'd say, because of the insert song scenes for Yozora & Sena, it fleshes things out better. |
This is definitely my favorite anime of the season.
Yozora is still unlikable, though. She goes way too far with her tormenting of people-- to the point of where it's just not funny. Surprised to hear Kodaka singing. Usually, it's all about the girls singing in these types of shows. I thought the montage with Yozora and Sena singing a "duet" in separate rooms was cool. Best part of the episode, though, was when Sena got her revenge on Yozora by saying her father wanted to meet with Kodaka and said it was a secret to make Yozora jealous. It spoke volumes at the end how everyone started moving on, but Yozora was sort of left there by herself. Kodoka may thank her for starting the club, but at the end of the day, she's still the one who's going to be the loneliest because of the way she is. |
Meh, still like Yozora..and everyone else. :3
Wow, can't believe they jumped to the karaoke ep already. It was pretty enjoyable too. |
^ Ah! you meat-lovers, Yozora just tries to do everything by the/her book, while Sena, like any privileged bends rules (i.e, lies/manipulates/distorts truth) to her advantage... poor Yozoras out there
EDIT: Poor, but still deserves the Rei-bitch-slap :p |
I like the contrast between Team Kodaka and Yozora/Sena. He caught them off guard when he decided to pay for the remaining people. Nice comeback by Sena, though. I was expecting Yozora to butt in and demand he'd stay at her house as well (though I wouldn't be surprised if it would actually come to that later on).
At least he managed to get along better with Rika and Yukimura than it seems with Yozora and Sena. Too bad Kobato didn't get screen time singing, though somehow, I suspect she's not all that good at it. |
Has there been any great HanaKana songs?
|
My oh my, the irony.
Yozora Mikazuki and Sena Kashiwazaki, the first two members to actually take the club seriously, are doing the exact opposite to what their trying to achieve. Their not making friends, but rather rivals. When I saw both of them in their seperate booths alone, I really felt sorry for them when they heard Kodaka Hasegawa sing. I guess it was the facial expressions and the obvious fact that they had ended up alone, when it was those two themselves that brought up and organised the idea...I can't help but feel that these two are what's going to cause the serious drama in future episodes. The others like Kodaka and Rika etc are getting along fine, and Yozora Mikazuki and Sena Kashiwazaki are getting in the way. The two that wanted friends the most are the ones who are still being left out by their own actions. I wont be surprised if Kodaka finally confronts them both or if the other members of the club complain, because episode 6 certainly showed that they really can be friends if they take it seriously. Surprisingly, Kodaka had a good singing voice :P Rika's actions with the mic was...unsettling XD and I just love Kodaka's younger sister with her cosplay and acting :) |
As a novel reader this episode was pleasing, rather than just cutting stuff (which they did less of but not the point) they added some original parts that better streamlined it for the time spent, or perhaps even improved on the original a bit.
|
Sena/Yozora take the club seriously... or just want to get under Kodaka's pants :p
