Touhou (東方) Themes // Remixes

About Touhou
The Touhou Project is a series of 2D vertically-scrolling danmaku shooting games made by Team Shanghai Alice, with two fighting game spinoffs co-produced with Tasogare Frontier. They are similar to regular shooting games, but focus more on weaving through complex patterns containing anywhere from dozens to hundreds of bullets. Every game in the Touhou series is set in the fantasy land of Gensokyo, and the series is known for its huge cast of characters, well-developed storylines, and related materials such as music CDs and fan-made comics.

About the Music
As mentioned above, Touhou has gained a lot of popularity via its soundtrack, and that's what this topic is going to focus on. Many people are likely aware of IOSYS, a group that has obtained memetic popularity by doing covers of Touhou related music. Well, IOSYS isn't the only group to do such things - there are many other notable groups, a few of them being ALiCE'S EMOTiON, COOL&CREATE, CROW'SCLAW, EastNewSound, Innocent Key and many, many others.

About this Topic
Originally, I started a topic for Flandre's theme (U.N. Owen Was Her?) over here, and shortly after, I realized that we'd likely be better off with a topic dedicated to Touhou mixes entirely. Eventually, herbert suggested the same, and this topic came to life. The whole first paragraph (About Touhou) was taken from Touhou Wiki.

Thread Rules
  • If it's Touhou related music, you're allowed to post it. This includes MADs, etc.
  • Similar songs are allowed to be shared, just try to avoid reposts of the exact same ones.
  • Try to be constructive when commenting on songs, try not to flame, avoid posts that are nothing but "WOW! That's so cool!"
  • Follow AnimeSuki rules when posting, this one is obvious enough.

hmm.... posting two of my favourite jazz arrangements:

Artist: TUCK.less (first video), Issay & Geist Jazz Band (second vid)

Biased toward Demetori stuff

Their main stuff is metal, the instrumental kind and they do it good.

However, their acoustic is equally good:

Otherwise, I'd suggest WAVE. They touch on diverse genres but their most oustanding efforts are in the chorus + orchestral style, case in point, Yamaxanadu's theme:

Their take on Yuyuko's theme, Border of Life, is E.P.I.C.

Another circle to look for is =Neutral=

A great remix of Tenshi Hinanai's theme

been looking for some slower, soothing remixes these few days. Here are some of them.

[Azure&Sands] ビニール袋の中は神様の好きな物で一杯
Released in Reitaisai6
Remixes of Sanae's theme, "Faith is for the Transient People", and also "The Primal Scene of Japan the Girl Saw"
Vocal: Asana

[efs] ブクレシュティの人形師 - <RetroAtmosphere>
remix of Alice's theme
Vocal: 阿部左(Abe Hidari)

Their "In the DARKNESS. -アナタノヤクヲ、サカセテアゲル-" is also very good, but I couldn't find it anywhere on youtube.

Title: Hell for Flandle

Comment: A bit scary, middle of a night maybe the best time for it.

Love it. It has the ZUN-ish feeling and is on par, if not better, with original Touhou songs.

I guess I like trance-vocal remixes the most (especially EastNewSound's stuff)...

Original: Ningyou Saiban ~ Hito no Katachi Moteasobishi Shoujo

Marisa remix~ Also if the singer's voice sounds familiar...PYAAAaaaa!

Vocal: Haduki Nano
Circle: EastNewSound
Original: Shanghai Kouchakan ~ Chinese Tea

Title: Phantasmagoria -Danmaku Kekkai-

Vocal: 井上みゆ

Comment: Somehow remind me about the OP of the Record of Lodoss War.

Title: Phantom-Liberation
Circle: セブンスヘブンMAXION
Vocal: SaRaSa & きこうでんみさ
Original: Phantom Ensemble [Prismriver sisters - PCB stage 4 boss theme]
Comment: I have problem with remembering the names of Prismriver sisters...but I like their theme.

Alright, I've already made MULTIPLE complaints about SOUND HOLIC, but they need to get someone who can actually write stuff in proper english, and someone who can sing in english. The nigh-decipherable engrish (at least if you didn't have access to the lyrics) was a sore point in what were otherwise great eurobeat mixes of themes.

EDIT: I referring to specific remixes by SOUND HOLIC, NOT all of their tracks.

Hisana 2009-05-06 23:41

Title: 50% Alive'n'Dead
Vocal: Harada Hitomi (you might recognize her as the singer of ef's game themes)
Original: Touhou Youyoumu ~ Ancient Temple

Title: Grazin' Bullets
Vocal: Takahashi Nana
Original: Rokujuu-nenme no Touhou Saiban ~ Fate of Sixty Years

Both from SOUND HOLIC's M3-23 album. At least there's not that much Engrish!
