ok...i can listen to music but there is no audio when i play a video file

Sounds like you don't have the correct codecs installed. What file extension does this video file have? .avi, .mkv? What codec(s) are currently installed on your computer? More info is needed please.

i followed the configuration guide and i installed all the codecs mentioned there but it still doesn't work. I can't play any files that i downloaded (avi, divx, rmvb, etc.). i can watch dvds but can't play downloaded files.
