We finally got to the other twist. It was funny how casual Reiner was when revealing his true identity to Eren without any notable music in the middle. We almost got a "Dude" from him.

germanturkey 2017-05-06 10:56

the music at the end was pretty damn epic. the reveal was so casual that it was disarming. it was well done.

Ultragunner 2017-05-06 11:21

is it me, or the author just loves sh*tting on the typical shounen MC trope that is Eren? :heh:

After this episode, everything will probably be new to me since i remember that no new chapters were available in the manga to read and i stop reading ongoing titles around that time period. I don't remember Reiner's revelation being this casual tho. I kinda liked how this episode managed it. And the epic OST and cool animation at the end was just glorious!

Now i wonder, what was Reiner's and Berthold's goal at all? Why were they infiltrated in the walls if they could just destroy them easily to begin with?

It was so casual that it was in the background while other characters were talking.

I remember reading this part in the manga that totally make me thinking, "wait, what, is the translator trolling me or what?" :heh:

Kanon 2017-05-06 12:59

I loved how freaked out Bertholdt looked during the whole thing. He knew Reiner had lost it and there was nothing he could do.

Eren's reaction in the anime gave me a different impression than in the manga. In the manga, it seemed to me he was in denial about them being traitors, but here I was more under the impression he was trying to follow the plan laid out by Hange and attempted to play dumb to avoid having the two of them transforming.

And the other Titans identities are finally revealed.
The anime did foreshadowed it since both of them hang around with Annie.
It must be hard for Eren to know that 4 of his friends were Titan Shifters with two of them being responsible for the destruction of his home town.

I remember that in the first season when we still didn't know Eren was a Titan, the trio of Annie, Reiner and Berthold said they should treat the Titan as an ally. Still, they didn't know about Ymir.

Wow, that was perfect. Only complaint I have is the awkward CGI but besides that, the execution, music, and revelation and cliffhanger made this episode especially satisfying.

I got the same impression from the manga, but the anime gave me the impression that he was reluctantly following the plan while being in denial about them being traitors.

Well, it's been a few years since i read it and since my memory is not my strongest aspect i guess you are right :heh:
But it was really fun watching it now. Mikasa's reaction and face expression was just priceless.

Yeah I got the same impression here. And I like anime version better. Make Eren look less of an idiot. Prop to WIT studio. Or is this one of another Isayama's suggestion ?

Remember when some people thought Pixis was the Colossal Titan because he was bald? :heh:

"Um, hi! I'm Reiner, also known as the Armored Titan, and this one is the Colossal Titan, come with us and we'll go on an adventure and find out lost homeland!" :heh: :heh: :heh:

They really haven't explained anything yet, I thought they'll go straight to Crista/Historia granting permission and then an infodump episode will follow, we're still in the introductions part lol.

That... was... GLORIOUS!

Fantastic episode! I'm absolutely on edge waiting for next week because I just have to know more! The casual way Reiner just tried to get Eren to go with them came out of the left field, I was caught completely off guard. Brilliantly done.

blakstealth 2017-05-06 15:52

the whole reveal was hilarious. I had to go back a couple of times at Reiner admitting that he and Bert were those two titans. I thought at first that it was the guy talking to Hange that said that. But that wouldn't have made sense, so that's when I realized that Reiner really spilled the beans then and there rofl. And Mikasa had the most unintentionally funniest face when she was staring at them. It would be too easy to give Eren shit for just standing there and not doing anything while Mikasa does everything again, so I won't say anything.

"Guys... YOU LITERALLY KILLED MY MOTHER AND DESTROYED MY TOWN."
"Yeah, can't do an omelette without breaking a few eggs. Peace? Please come with us!"

The funny thing in the manga was that for a while it'd looked like Bertholdt was not quite right in the head while Reiner was, as Eren said, the reliable big brother. It turned out the Reiner had been the one losing it the whole time.

Also funny: the Ultra Hard Steel swords that outperform wood axes to a ridiculous extent fail to go through human bone like a hot knife through butter.

Peanutbutter 2017-05-06 20:15

What is this, a minute long preview?!? We Dragonball here? By the end, I was like okay, so that's their plan to end it there.

The anime did such a good job managing the revelation, the clouds, the sky clearing, the broken flag, the voice-acting even (Did Reiner sounds different at parts? Cause of his VA's illness? Even Kaji Yuuki's wavering voice was pretty good.)

And oh, Mikasa, you could take out Titans with one slice, but not a human? Can we intepret this as her own misgivings being in the way?

I really loved this chapter. Everyone's playing mind games. But the real action starts now. :D
