Is the text on your sigs your work as well?

No, it's usualy a quote from somewhere, (but I did had to translated some of them.)For example, the text of the sig than I am using now is from '' A Cradle song'' , a poem from Song of Innocence by William Blake.

Background is too plain, the text covers the stock too much, but the sketch is nice.

Background is nothing special, the stock is a bit blurry, text is fine but your blending wasn't done so well. Try soft/overlay.

This isn't bad overall, but the stock sticks out too much, text again needs work. Background is ok, but maybe you should add effects.

To be honest, I don't think this is one of your best. The stocks just look copy/pasted on a texture, and the text font doesn't mesh well.

Your main problem seems to be backgrounds and text; for text, try creating a new text layer, then go to Layer>Layer Style>Stroke.

Backgrounds need more effects, they honestly just sometimes look like colored textures. Try downloading brushes from DA, and soft glows will help.

@Kelisidina Most of your comment are appropriate... exept the one about the first sig. I wanted it to look like a drawing or a sketch made on paper, not something comming from a computer or a TV. Adding more stuff would had killed the effect.

A question : I am working on a sig thyan the quote than I intend to use is in french, should I keep it like it or should I translate it at the risk to not make honour to the quote ?

I say leave it in french.

People are always adding lines in japanese to their sigs anyway. :p
