New BFT models. Mostly upgrades for the existing characters but the winning looks very different. |

Lightning really is just the base model + new backpack and I assume that was the intent from the start since the original lightning box doesnt bring the first backpack.

Pretty meh actually. Try Burning doesn't look that different and probably will depend on the fire gimmick. I was expecting somoe sort of arm or leg gimmick like God Gundam's God Finger.
Lightning Gundam Full Burnern looks ok, but it's like some sort of add on mission pack instead of mid season upgrade. It doesn't seem good enough to take on Dead End Gundam Star Winning Gundam? Now that is a good mid season update. Looks like it can become a knuckle, can see the launcher at the back, but they looks like normal gundam legs too. I wonder if it is possible to change to a 1/144 Gundam? Doubt it though |

Try Burning's only difference are the backpack, shoulders, forearms and calves (and some minor mods to the waist armor and chest). The rest is essentially identical to the first version. It's not really that big of a surprise, seeing that in the previous season the Star Build Strike was essentially the same Build Strike with a different pack and weapons--but the same core MS kit. Design-wise it's actually not too bad. They way it's designed, I'll be expecting it to have the same level of posability as the original Build Burning.
The only reason I'm disappointed is because the way the original Build Burning's calves and forearms are built, it looks very much like you could remove some of the panels and replace it with an add-on piece of gear. So I was basically expecting an add-on pack that goes onto the existing Build Burning (Kind of like how the Full Armor Unicorn is essentially tons of firepower strapped onto the Unicorn Gundam, or how the whole Hazel series of Gundams is slapped together). If they did that, or if they completely revised the Build Burning's design I would be sort-of okay with it. But it feels like a halfhearted change at this stage. Here's a pic of the Build Burning with those panels removed, you can see the open ports: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BZMOYwMWjp...ntitled-12.jpg Kind of like how the Hi-Mock kit is looking: http://img.amiami.jp/images/product/...DM-2727_03.jpg |
Never really thought the Build Burning needed a physical upgrade. People kept saying how it was world level ability, and I assume Sekai would just get upgrades throughout the series in the form of abilities(quantizing type stuff?)
|
Yeah burning was already a way stronger suit than most of the others shown so far so it was the least needing of an upgrade. Winning sorely needed one because its already shown that its main purpose of existing is not needed anymore or is useless. Yuuma I dont know, since he spent so much time tuning the lightning that it doesnt seem like he can get more out of the core model unless the backpack seriously changes how he fights other than another flight mode.
If Star Winning is really a SD to 1/144 gimmick then its pretty ingenious of Bandai. People will have to get 3 just to display all the modes. |
Until I see the new Build Burning in action, I won't judge the upgrading. It's actually a minimal upgrade as I expected, and I'm glad they didn't just slap more shit on it to make it look like an actual upgrade.
I mostly interest in the Winning Gundam anyway. While it's a good looking/performance unit in idea and design, the lacking of screen time make it's hurt to watch. |
So... Build Burning Gundam is essentially going "Destroy Mode" with how there seems to be more "particle frame" showing up. Not too bad, I guess, but I'd REALLY love it more if they gave it just a bit more than that.
Lightning looks good on lineart, but the model looks a bit more "meh". Not sure if I like this version or the current one more. Winning looks the most different and probably the most creative of the three. Waiting to see its hidden gimmicks. Overall, I suppose these upgrades fit with each pilot's personality. Sekai can't really use range weapons, so Burning was going to stick to martial arts to begin with. Having more "RG-frame" showing up for extra human-like mobility makes sense in this case. Yuuma is all invested into his artistic Lightning Gundam, so it makes sense to just switch the backpack. Hoshino, on the other hand, is more like Sei and lets her imagination run wild while making something very useful. |
Star Winning Gundam's gimmick reminds me of those old Digimon digi-evolution figures that you can transform or disassemble then put back together to turn a tiny looking 'child' digimon into its bigger 'adult' form back in the day. :heh:

Part of me hopes those extra pieces of the Star Winning Gundam could attach to the Try Burning Gundam's limbs, while the new backpack of the Lightning Gundam (what's it upgrade called?) could attach to its back so the team could truly fight as one. Might prove to be an interesting counter to Gundam "The End".
