Is Chitanda free to marry any person that she wants ? Or she must settle with any random guy that her family pick for her ?
Since She does comes from a traditional rich family , which makes me wonder how independent Chitanda is about her choice.

I don't know the source material, so can only base on the anime, but my impression would certainly be that she's thought enough about her future that she wouldn't just frivolously choose someone if they couldn't walk along side her as her partner in the life set before her. So while it may be possible that her parents try to propose suitors when she gets to the appropriate age, I tend to think if she came to them with that sort of clearheaded view of her future path and how this person would stand along side her to support, her parents would almost certainly give their blessing.

And, as expected, All the Anime has announced it for a UK Release. Very good news for us on this side of the pond. :)

The answer to that is yes and no, the ending is very open ended. We just don't know if they do or not.
