Halo Infinite
Halo Infinite is the latest instalment to join the Halo franchise, following the Master Chief as he fights the Banished, a fanatical Covenant faction who've found a Halo ring and intends to use it to eradicate humanity. With a tentative release date for the holidays of 2020, 343 Industries has stated that Halo Infinite will be available on both Xbox One and PC on launch. The first bit of gameplay was also unveiled earlier today, and it looks beautiful.

Sooooo did the whole AI takeover story get put on hold or something? :heh:

Only half joking, it still feels a good bit weird for them to go to yet another Covenant faction story after how the last game ended.

They're probably trying to merge the Spirit of Fire and Infinity storylines after keeping them separate for so long. I mean, we already had a primer when Halo Wars 2's epilogue contained a nod to the Guardian crisis, and now we might be seeing further convergence in the Infinite preview with a reference to Atriox' faction. If the two threads are indeed meant to intertwine, we could possibly hope to see MC being reunited with more of his surviving Spartan-II brethren, either in Infinite or a future Halo installment.

And I say possibly - because, as far as we know, SoF is still marooned on a different megastructure, locked in combat with Atriox' Banished, and their gambit to hitch a slipspace hike to another installation didn't exactly pan out.

That said, it'd be a damn shame if 343i indeed shafted the Infinity just to build the premises of Halo Infinite. That was a mightily impressive ship, though it was still forced to go on the run while every colony in sight was falling to Cortana's Created Uprising. Hopefully, Blue Team and Osiris (minus Buck, who left his squad to captain the reactivated fireteam Alpha-Nine) weren't on board the Infinity when everything went to hell. Osiris is expendable, but killing off BT, or part of it, especially off-screen, would be sure to p*** off some of the fanbase.
