Laputa: Have you ever noticed?

TCM has been playing some of Hayao Miyazki's work every Thursday night this month (english dub followed by original japanese) and tonight's program included Laputa: Castle in the Sky. I love Laputa so of course I watched. Both. And taped them. ( I'm a dork.)
Well, in the beginning half when Sheeta just awakens there is a trumpet piece playing. In the english dub there seems to be a harp accompaniment - there's none of that in the original! Now, what the...!? I'm flabber-gasted. Why would it just be a solo....? Are we americans just so special as to need extras? I don't know - I don't understand. But back to the main reason for this post: Has anyone else noticed something like this in another japanimation?

Yep, Joe Hisaishi rescored the entire soundtrack for the 2002 dub of Castle In The Sky. It's not a bad rescore, a bit richer in places and more 'Hollywood' in the action bits. I still prefer his original score for it though, like Nausicaa, it's got raw energy and it's unfashionably retro in places but wonderfully original.

I suspect there's a Laputa thread somewhere waiting to be merged with this...:uhoh:

I'm just waiting for next week's Whisper of the Heart. Never before heard in a Dub! I hope Concrete Roads is sung well. The original was Olivia Newton John!

Off topic, but an English dub of Whisper can never work under any circumstances. Not that I'd ever waste my money on any Disney dub.

Why would the girl want to translate Concrete Road when, err, she's already speaking the same language as the song is currently in? This dub would interesting, to say the least. Maybe they'll make a complete overhaul of the songs, like they did with Kiki.
