Anime Festival Asia

Making another thread of 2012, this can be the consolidated threat if needed.

Well looks like they are expending with Anime Festival Asia 2012 Malaysia in June and Singapore in Nov. Details on either are non-existent, which is a concern since June is 2 1/2 months away. Anyone thinking of going to either?

I'm thinking of heading to the Malaysia one just to get an excuse to go out of the country.

AFA Malaysia
AFA Singapore

I'll see how much I can save....currently I am surviving on savings as I take on a new job.

Pokaru 2012-03-24 02:23

So is there any details on the Singapore one? I may be able to visit it considering I'm about to make a trip to Singapore.

Other than it being in Nov, not a clue:heh:

Azuma Denton 2012-03-28 05:44

Will pass on the events this time...
Not enough money... :heh:

Unless Marina Inoue is present in Singapore... :p

JokerD 2012-03-28 06:32

A bit more details, the Malaysian event is taking place on 9 and 10 June, at Putra World Trade Centre

Holy shit it is in KL, looks like a pretty rough ride from Singapore towards the inland.

I should be able to save enough to cosplay.....though I need to decide which character before I go.

Anyway, it would be nice to see what it is like over there, and if the stuff is cheaper...

Btw, the date in SG has been set...
9-10-11 November 2012 in Singapore Expo...

Any insider info why the venue changed?
Is it because many complaints for cosplayer last year??

No. Crossdressing without a license is illegal here. :heh:

Besides I only need 1 more prop before my character is complete.....maybe I'll go vegan for a month to lose that bacon around my waist.....wished the SAF called me so I can find a reason to lose weight.

There can only be 3 reasons :

1. Ballooning attendance. Too many people. EOY used to be held at expo until the number of cosplayers shrunk in 2007-2008.

2. The megachurch owning the property didn't like the cosplayers. Damn I should have dressed as Sasha from Seikon no Qwaser to troll them during the Sunday last year. Come to think of it Putra Tower houses UMNO HQ, so it might be the last time such an event is hosted in M'sia. :heh:

3. The pedobear cosplayers resulting in the unsuspecting parents complaining. :D

Any Malaysians here willing to be our tour guides?

Hmm...
I thought you already get license from Sumeragi to cross-dress? :heh:

About that reason...
Wait, is there any pedobear cosplay in AFA last year??
*checking my photo collection of loli first...

Anyway...
One month prior before Malaysia AFA, and there is still no announcement on event or artiste...
Are the event in Malaysia is organized directly by AFA team of Singapore (if i'm not wrong, SOHO isnt it??)

It appears to be less of a license and more of a commandment.

Sume-nee Sumeragi does not have any right to license or command others to crossdress.

Check the AFA2011 thread. JokerD immortalised it with his camera.

I think so. But it is organised at the site of the UMNO headquarters, which recently ordered a ban on our local ballet team. Most likely they are going to ban cosplayers too....unless we name all of our prop weapons Zulqifar *sarcastic*.

While I am interested in AFAM, with nothing being confirmed other than location, I'm still not willing to take a leap of faith.

Still a drive up to KL sounds nice...

MUAHAHAHAHAHA 2012-04-16 10:06

What? It's going to be held in Putra World Trade Centre? I hate that place, not to mention limited parking space, though the place is reachable by public transport. The exhibition should be held in KL Convention Centre.

The rent is low, and besides with the UMNO headquarters there, they are betting on it to deter pickpocketing and other crime.

Still, it is better to get travel insurance for those who are crossing the causeway. Who wants a quote? :D

Let's see whose coming to the event first. My plan is to drive to the hotel and take public transport (or taxi) to get around

Which hotel? Wanna share rooms?

TinyRedLeaf 2012-04-17 09:50

^ That just sounds so wrong...

Guys, PLEASE take pictures if you go to this event. No, it's not so I can make fun of you, I really want to see your creativity. I'm sure other do too.

Also, I'm a bit envious. :)

Most people I know going to the event are sharing rooms with each other to save cost. They would rather spend on the cab fare to the hotel instead.

I know of 6 girls sharing 2 rooms.....wanna book the room beside them? :D

OTOH : I have a relative in KL. I am thinking of putting up with him for 2 nights (Fri & Sat) but I don't think my mum wants him to know I am an otaku, even much less a cosplayer. :heh:

What if I tell you they might be doing kemonomimi cosplay? You know, catgirls? :p:p:p

Most of them are 2 decades younger than you. And don't worry, we have got indemnity since a couple of their aniki are just next door on the other end. :heh:

I am thinking of the UFO capsule hotel at Jalan Bintan....it is quite low cost for a 2 night stay, but I am not sure if I can store my props there without the UTC charging their assault trucks in after my first night.

JokerD 2012-04-18 09:51

Not sure much I want to spend on the hotel...

Going by this: Seems like we can get a pretty good hotel for less than S$150 for 2 nights...

Still, it all depends on what's on the program.

I'm more excited for the Singapore one through, although I'm not sure how they'll pull it off at Expo. I live close by so I can even walk there. Hoping for JAM Project this year, since they're on their world tour...

We are only staying for 2-3 nights. Why need a class hotel?

I am working 2 jobs so I can do a good cosplay for November. It is a long way to go, but at least I get the satisfaction for making my own costume. :heh:

@ TRL : The number is up to 48.

Not really concerned with a class hotel but more concerned with internet access and the distance to the venue. The options I selected contains the cheapest cost option for the site (disclaimer, that site was at the top of the google search result)

And a guarded car park, wouldn't want my car to get stolen.

Dig a bigger hole to bury your head in. Usually a size fit for your grave is always enough. *sarcastic*

Stop tempting me!

Are they all above 18...?

New job and everything, la. Can't confirm yet if I can spare the weekend. But, sure, will know by May 14. Most likely I will be driving up, too.

As long as you're not away from the country for more than six months at a time,
exit permit is not required. You are, however, still required to submit an overseas
notification via NS Portal.

My side is still trying to gather people...if we can gather enough we may go as a seperate group. If not we may join you all.

Because a too massive group becomes unwieldy after all....

What? So it is going to be a working-adults group vs a still-studying group? :heh:

Most people I know say they never submit when they are only in Johor/KL/Selangor for less than 3 days.

Since it is in June I don't want to risk being a victim of OpenMob or tele-recall.

By right must notify. Not submit permit request...just go Portal and type in notification...they shouldn't recall us if we notify....just like apply overseas leave when we were still inside....
