That was kind of entertaining, though with the name 'Stairway to Heaven' I was expecting something more serious (And relevant to the story) than what we got. I enjoyed the closing parts of the episode, Kanade running away to the garden and Yuri going through with her one week fasting threat afterwards. Kanade's deadpan, underwhelming reactions to everything are always nice, she's probably the funniest character.

Freeter 2010-12-22 02:52

Oh man, this entire episode is an avatar/sig/gif goldmine. Reaction faces everywhere.

I always thought the show's strongest suit was the humor, and I'm glad to see this bonus episode was devoted entirely to it. Fans who wanted more story will obviously be disappointed, but honestly, after the contrived drama that we got for an ending, I'd rather have this slice-of-life setting instead. Especially when it gives us more epic TK lines, Yui spazzing out on her guitar, and Yurippe being the megalomaniac that she is :D

The real standouts, of course, were Shiina and Kanade. Shiina breaking the Tension Meter reminded me of Tomoyo's 999+ hit combo from Clannad, and Kanade being Kanade was predictable yet charming as usual. The bit with the door's 'keypad' was especially hilarious :heh:

Was it wrong of me to also think of the show's actual ending upon seeing that 'BAD END' message? :p

HitoriTomoyo 2010-12-22 02:55

I expected a whole lot of development and got absolutely none of it. Figures it would act under a charade of serious drama and development only to fall through and display needless silly antics.

Still, this was arguably one of the best episodes Angel Beats! has ever delivered; the humor and how it was thought out throughout made it arguably superior to just about almost every episode that was officially broadcasted. Operation High Tension...START! :p

Yes, I have to agree that the humor in the extra was absolutely great. I was trying to fit this into the timeline of the series, but in the end, the "Bad End" made this a stand alone episode.

Well, they really can't make a second season with the same characters in a continuation series, have this extra was nice.

SolCiel 2010-12-22 04:35

It was so very amusing.
Especially the sports meet part.

Kopi 2010-12-22 05:46

This episode was full of lol moments. It was nice to see the characters back again... for a Bad End? :heh:

Wigwams 2010-12-22 05:51

ahhh. it was a good episode. i had a big smile on my face the whole time that i had to cover my face with a pillow or else someone might think i've gone nuts. :D

i hope that bad end thing hints to a possible VN...

SoFarGone 2010-12-22 05:51

high tension for 12 hours lol.

Yuno 2010-12-22 06:04

Extremely funny episode and a wonderful revisit to all of the characters. I couldn't stop laughing the whole way through.

Wigwams 2010-12-22 06:08

btw just to clarify, is this un-aired episode the alternate ending or is that something else?

at first i thought these 2 are separate. but since they added the "bad end" at the closing seconds, im not sure anymore...

No it shouldn't be. This bonus episode is clearly just a bonus episode, and the "Bad End" is just there for humor's sake. The Another Epilogue is an alternate to the ending of the series as your link says.

The Angel Beats! homepage also lists the 7th volume as containing episode 13, Stairway to Heaven, and Another Epilogue.

It seems the release of Stairway to Heaven on the Internet was just from a TV broadcast, which explains why the episode is out already when there's no word on the epilogue yet. Might have to wait a few days before it comes out, judging by how long the BD/DVD movie releases have taken to get out on the net lately.

I've been laughing nonstop for this episode...
Simply amazing... :D

This was the funniest episode of Angel Beats.
A laughed a lot when TK ate that spicy food (I don't remember the name XD)
Class scenes were also very funny.
Bad and funny end XD

kitten320 2010-12-22 09:59

I have mixed emotions about it... it had some great humor scenes, mostly towards the end. But it also had a lot of random and annoying humour especially in the beginig. Characters were acting way too crazy...

But I liked Yurippe as a villian and Yui flying in the sky^^

Piprocker 2010-12-22 11:30

the episode was really funny xD!

roankun 2010-12-22 11:51

Not sure if this belongs here, but here's my thoughts on the "ANOTHER EPILOGUE" bonus.

Spoiler for Another Epilogue:

Haak 2010-12-22 13:33

Yeah it was okay but not great.

Spoiler for Another Epilogue:

They had another epilogue included?

I was disappointed that shinna did not fight tenshi. Also I wonder what tenshi was thinking when she saw how crazy everyone was acting.
