We need a thread for this, don't we? :) This two-episode OVA is bundled with the 46th and 47th volume of the manga that is being released on March 16, 2012. The VA cast remained the same aside from one notable exception. Miu will be voiced by Kugimiya Rie!!!!! I've a mixed feeling about this major change. Miu is a soft, gentle character which is a role Kugimiya Rie isn't often seen with. Either way, she is an exceptional VA, so I guess I've to have my faith. The synopsis in the following is for the virgins of this story:

Shirahama Ken'ichi is an average student who has earned the nickname "Weak Legs" from always getting bullied. One day he meets a cute girl named Fuurinji Miu who helps him build the courage to begin training at a mysterious dojo where she lives. Here Kenichi faces intense training from masters of many different martial arts styles as he attempts to become stronger.

Brains Base's involvement also ensures we will have a decent budget to animate the OVA above par. I also hope this OVA signifies more Kenichi in the near future.

Kugimiya Rie as Miu will be VERY WEIRD O.O

Saw the episode. Looks like the story is ready to embark on a new saga. It gives us temendous hope for a new season. Whether it will materialize or not, future will tell. Anyway, I've captured all the relevant screens from this episode in the following: :)

Here is to hoping the OVA will soon pave the way for a new TV series. Btw, Kugimiya Rie has pulled it off rather well as Miu.

I love the new OVA. I really do miss this series, and I do hope they will have another long running series for this.


As for Kugimiya Rie, I felt that she was too high pitched for Miu, and a bit too excited at times. At other times, she fit in fine, but overall, I really do miss Kawakami Tomoko (may she rest in peace) in this role. I think even Hirano Aya might be a better fit.

This episode really felt like an introductory episode, with introductions of the new villains. I heard from a friend that the series really picks it up after the last anime arc. I guess I miss Miu the most.

Was a good OVA.
The new voice can be "strange" but i think if we have more OVA or episodes, that will be good.
It's some years now from the first anime.

I liked the new animation..finally grow up..this anime has great potential if things are done well...i hope for the second season..i just love the manga...and Shigure lol!

It was a fun watch, but something seemed off about it. Maybe I should not have watched it at 3am. I am looking forward to more.

Me thinks I need to go back through the original again for good measure. Marathon!!

They really should've looked for someone else other than Kugimiya Rie for Miu, it sounded pretty weird since over the years I have gotten used to her just voicing pettanko loli tsundere characters :heh: Nice OVA, Shigure indeed has a nice body :p but hope to see a tv series in the near future :p

:heh::heh: Miu new voice didn't bother me much..i was hypnotized by Shigure body..all the time lol...

Throughout the thing i was wondering who's voice is higher? Kugimiya Rie's loli voice or the guy that did Kenichi's voice.

So what chapters did this animate?


I also doubt we will see a new TV series as it's just not that popular. The ongoing manga with over 45 volumes available 4 of which were released last year couldn't even get the series to sell over 960,000 volumes in all of 2011.

That's not bad at all. The recent average per volume (about 150,000) is fairly above a lot of manga series that get anime adaptations these days. Not to mention, having an anime airing almost always boosts the manga sales.
Since these ovas are actually included with the new manga volumes, they're probably testing if the animation's likely to give the sales a fair rise.

Damn i want a season 2.
Kugimiya Rie huh i prefer the previous voice actress.

why do so many complain about kugimiya rie? ofc normaly she has flat chested tsundere roles, but the way she uses her voice is rather similar to the previous voice actress of miu. i was rly surprised that her voice fitted miu so well, i ll get accutomed to her in no time if a new season starts. and nearly 1 million volumes in a year doesnt sound bad to me, HSDK is under the top 5 on nearly every site where u can read mangas online, if HSDK doesnt deserve to be animated then no manga out there does, especially if we consider that the manga gets even better than what we already saw.

So this is what would happen if Hayate and Kasumi from Dead or Alive fought in the HSDK world...:heh: The girl was hot (of course she was), no surprise there. :heh: Loved it when Kenichi went 'Game On' when that guy smacked Honoka away. I mean...really? It should be common knowledge NOT to attack little girls in front of male martial artists, regardless if they are related or not. Chivalry and honor are (usually) imbedded into them so it's just... :heh:
He's lucky he was fighting Kenichi and not Apachai....:eek: ...oh the horror if he was fighting Apachai...

As long as they animate the D of D Tourny, I'll be happy. I really want to see the Sho vs Kenichi fight. I could care less about the one that happens afterward though... At least up until we get to a certain jujitsu practioner...:naughty: and her little disciple too. :love:
