Banned BB codes on message "walls"

Any particular reason why I can't use a spoiler tag when I post to someone's Visitor Messages area? I posted there to avoid spoilage in a Suggestions thread. I ended up having to use white text in the Messages area to hide the spoiler.

I suspect the reason spoiler tags don't work in VMs is because they were created (by GHDpro, not by vB) before the introduction of VMs. They would have never been tested and it appears for some reason the spoiler tag isn't accepted within VMs.

Edit: At a guess, none of the additional (AnimeSuki specific) bbcodes work within a VM, the HR tag fails in the same way as the spoiler tag. It would appear that when vB implemented the VM code, they didn't include the code to check their own BB Code Manager (which is the way we add new bbcode to our forum). So I would say it is a bug with vB.

It took a little searching, but the applicable option is located in vBulletin Options -> User Profile: Visitor Messaging Options (in the vBulletin Admin Control Panel, only accessible by administrators).

I've now enabled Allow Custom BB Codes there, so the spoiler tag (and any other AnimeSuki specific custom bbcode) should now work, hopefully.

Some others are still disabled, such as: Size bbcode, Font bbcode, List bbcode, Image bbcode & Quote bbcode. I'm not sure whether any or all of these should be enabled too, but some (like the Quote bbcode) would make sense I think.

Here's hoping for the quote tag.

It's the one I would use the most if available and the one I see the most being missed. >_<

Thanks, GHDpro. I'm sure I'm not the first person who has wanted to use custom tags in VMs.

I've enabled most of the others now too, so you should be able to use just about the same bbcodes as in a normal forum post.

If anyone has a good reason why some of these bbcodes should not be enabled, let me know :)

I was hoping to see size, quote and spoiler tags enabled in visitor messages. For the rest I can find very little use in visitor messages but would find them useful in social groups. Especially img-tag.
So now I'm wondering if the same could be done for social group threads?
As a gov of the photography group I would really appreciate some more formatting options to the social group content.

Social Groups have the same bbcode options as do Visitor Messages (vBulletin Options -> Social Group Options) so it would be possible to turn on all the same bbcode options as we did with Visitor Messages.

I don't see an issue with doing so, if there are no objections from any other Mods/Admin I'll do it in the next day or so (unless GHDpro wants to do it sooner).

Oh joy, thanks mucho! :)

Was getting tired of using "bold" as a sort of quote tag in VMs. :meh:

I would also like to see some of the bbcode options for Social Groups being enabled, especially the image :)

Here's the group that I started:

It would be great being able to post images there :)
