2020 threw a bone at us.

LoweGear 2020-04-14 00:34

This.... in these trying times, this is a MIRACLE :T_T:

MeoTwister5 2020-04-14 00:52

Holy shit.

Just... holy shit. It damn better be Junichi Sato back at the helm.

Dextro 2020-04-14 04:37

YES! YES! Tell me more please! Aria is the absolutely top of SOL and one of my favourite shows of all time. This is fantastic news!

Now I kind of hope it's not a remake but the sequel I've been dreaming for years with Ai-chan as the main character. Avvenire was such a nice short little thing that deserves to be expanded on (they even have 3 main characters ready, it's all properly setup).

So very much this. I want Ai-chan leading the way as the main character of this installment, she deserves more screentime

Nachtwandler 2020-04-14 04:52

It was also announced that Jun'ichi Satou will direct again and that they hired Rina Satou as a new seiyuu for Athena.

That just increased the connection between Aria with World Witches, Arknights, & Azur Lane in terms of the VAs.. :D

A man of culture I see :heh:

That would also mean we would get more of long haired adult Akari-chan which is

Wonderful news. In Jun'ichi Satou we trust. Also interesting to see they recast Athena (I was wondering if they would do that or just avoid having the character take part as much as possible). Any other news on the rest of the voice cast? Just checking if the VAs for Anya and Azusa are on board to check if this is a sequel or not :heh:

Tenzen12 2020-04-14 06:36

I too hope it will be sequel. Original anime were really wholesome and satisfying journey. And while I don't think there is lot to improve on what we already got, I would like see where this journey can go from that point.

Kanon 2020-04-14 07:16

Words can't describe my happiness.

I'm also hoping it's a sequel. The fact it was posted on the Aria the avvenire account is a good sign, right? The best case scenario would be sequel and occasional flashbacks to adapt chapters from the manga that were skipped (just have Akari tell the stories to Ai). So basically what the Avvenire was.

It's reassuring to know Junichi Satou will be involved, but I'd like to know the extent of Kozue Amano's involvement in this.

Ernietheracefan 2020-04-14 08:47

I hope there will be an Undine song collections.. (Especially Lumis Eterne Rina Sato version..)

Blaat 2020-04-14 13:26

Flabbergasted, had to check twice to make sure it was an actual TV series and not some OVA or other special.

Like others I'm hoping it's a sequel.

They both chose a new seiyuu for Atena, so she is involved at least to some extent.

Requiem-x 2020-04-14 18:59

My only experience with Aria is the manga, but this is still very good news to me. Finally an aria anime I can follow from the get go.

Like others here, I do hope this new one focuses on Ai-chan, since it is the path that makes the most sense, though I'd like to add I hope we get more Cait Sith.

Proto 2020-04-14 21:58

I amply recommend the ARIA series. It is really good, and it was recently released in the west in full by right stuff

Dextro 2020-04-15 04:07

Like Proto said I strongly recommend the anime as well. The soundtrack in particular is god tier. So soothing!

In other news the website was updated and it looks like it's a new theatrical project (so movies). source

Edit: Now that I think about it, a movie would actually be a good thing, since you know what that means?

The best animation!!! :hyper-^v^:

Kanon 2020-04-15 07:02

A movie? That kind of sucks because that means most of us are going to have to wait an even longer time to see it. And to me the music and voices matter more than the animation for Aria. Although of course if I can get great animation to boot, I'll take it.

I hope the character design will be closer to what it was in the Origination. It was probably my one complaint with the Avvenire.

Blaat 2020-04-15 10:55

There is a chance that it's a special with a limited theatrical release like the Yamato 2200s and Digimon Trimovies, they tend to have much shorter time between theatrical release and blu-ray release.

Last Sinner 2020-04-15 13:18

This announcement is good news. I always have time for ARIA. Definitely in my top 10 of all time.

But...if the Athena curse claims Rina Satou too...

Stark700 2020-07-21 22:04

Delayed to Spring 2021

New PV!!!!!

Dynamic tag cannot be rendered. (PrintableThread)

Nachtwandler 2020-07-22 04:54

I wonder, why they changed the studio this time. Though the previous one was sold to Graphinica and changed the name back, it is still alive.

Ernietheracefan 2020-07-22 05:53

Probably because JC Staff also doing Amanchu..

BTW, is that Athena Misaka speaking..??

Dextro 2020-07-22 07:39

I find the lack of Ai-chan in that trailer disappointing. Hopefully it just means they are saving the best for last :heh:

Well, the movie will be focused to Alice & Athena relationship..

Infinite Zenith 2020-07-22 11:25

Looks beautiful, the trailer. Can't wait for this one :)

Kanon 2020-07-22 18:58

I like the new character design a lot more than the one for Avvenire, which I always had a problem with. Feels like the characters have never looked better. I'm happy to hear the movie will focus on Athena and Alice.

"Twilight" following up the "future" is kind of foreboding though... not that I think anything bad will happen :heh:

Last Sinner 2020-07-23 18:34

That is one unique name for this movie. Least I know there will be at least one thing worth watching for 2021.

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...-satou/.158561

The title is Aria the Crepusculo (Twilight)

Shochiku producer Toshio Iizuka announced on Tuesday that the brand-new Aria work will cast Rina Satou (Maria Watches Over Us' Tsutako Takeshima, Negima!'s Negi Springfield, A Certain Scientific Railgun's Mikoto Misaka) as the character Athena Glory. Satou replaces the late Tomoko Kawakami from previous anime adaptations of Kozue Amano's Aria manga.

Iizuka added that Satou was cast on the recommendations of director Junichi Sato and original creator Kozue Amano, to portray a new drama between Athena, Alice, and the other characters. Iizuka assured fans that Kawakami remains "part of the Aria family," even as Satou joins the family. Kawakami was still credited for a "special performance" of Athena Glory in Aria the Avvenire in 2015, four years after Kawakami passed away in 2011.

scififan 2020-08-06 02:23

When I saw the title, I was not sure if this is about Aria with boats or Aria with ammos. It turns out it is about the former. It is a relaxing anime. Last I heard about the news, someone mentioned that the real life cat "Aria Pokoteng" passed away, and the mangaka got depressed for awhile.

Dextro 2020-12-31 10:30

And we have a new Trailer and a release date

It looks gorgeous. And it will apparently be centered on Alice! I couldn't be happier.

Last Sinner 2020-12-31 21:22

Wonder by what means it can be seen outside of Japan but grateful this is happening.

Ernietheracefan 2020-12-31 21:32

TBH, I prefer the old character designs.. Although it's not really important right now..

I wouldn't put much hopes up on this being available overseas easily before the BluRay is out. Though the publisher does have an english page for it for whatever that means.

Can't disagree there. Alicia and Akari in particular look really weird in that trailer.

The designs are the closest they've ever been to Amano's art. Alicia and Akira (or is it really Akari you mean?) look weird because of the make-up.

The trailer really gives off the movie budget vibe.

At minimum, a six to seven month wait, but realistically, closer to eleven if previous trends were anything to go by.
