I think that's its beam boomerang, the one from the shield.

Yeah. Part of the shield can be detached to act as a sword. The boomerang can be straightened to look like a beam sword. One can see it clearer here:

heh, it's been just two years now but I still feel as if I just picked the hobby yesterday. It all started from the SEED five :D

You can always go back and finish where you left off, think of it as a restoration project it might take a bit of time and patients but at least you will have it the way you want it.. Go from scratch take each part strip it if it has paint, sand it down, putty it etc, etc. I'd give it an attempt, what is there to lose if it's already wrecked. There is always room for improvement.

SEED five was cool i liked how they did that, which reminded me how i got into Gundams.. Gundam Wing is how i got hooked. :)

I have a question. if you use gundam markers on the extra finish on the freedom or strike freedom, can you use an eraser method and wipe off the excess or is it permanent like for akatsuki gundam ?

Hey everyone I'm new to these forums and I've been looking at some of the models people have done here and I am very impressed. I've never been very good at putting together models, but I've always wanted to buy all these amazing master grade models. Seeing as I'm not very good what do you all think would be a good model for me to start on? I deffintly want it to be master grade...Assuming that's the best kind I don't really know much about all these terms. :upset:

Kelrys 2009-04-27 23:26

MG Strike Noir should keep u started.

Amber.Dawn 2009-04-27 23:43

Hmmm...
Strike and variants<--pretty easy
Rx-78<---pretty easy
rant: me want Akatsuki MG.../cry/

I would go for the Strike or its variants. MG's aren't that hard, unless you have butter fingers.

SD: Super Deformed<--a couple of runners
FG: First Grade<--don't have any, but slightly harder than SD I think
SG: painted, really quick builds, 15 minutes-ish
HG: High Grade<--nice, quick build...great for practicing, painting, detailing, little bigger than SD
NG: No Grade<---like HG
1/60 real detail: a PG sized HG I guess
MG: Master Grade<--harder, can be around 12 (-ish?) runners, smaller parts, takes a while, about 1.5ish times the size of HG
PG: Perfect Grade<--more detailed, around 1.8 times the size of MG
GG: Glorious Grade<--wires for lighting....wires everywhere

I think that's it....going in order from simplest to the most complex, although HG and NG are basically the same, as with PG and GG.

If you're relativey quick you can erase the markers. But they tend to leave some sort of smudge or residue behind anyhow. I usually avoid using them and just use paint instead. However because of the finish it should be extra runny compare to usual so gives you a little more time to wipe off in case of accidents.

If you really are a beginner. You should really start at High grade model rather than MG even though most people would say MG isn't hard. Yes putting together a gundam even at perfect grade isn't hard if you're just snap fitting everything. Doing it properly requires some skill. Erasing seam lines, sanding, cementing pieces together, puttying, prime & paint, panel lines, coating etc. Stuff like that is best on practising on a more affordable basis like the HG models until you get you're skills up to scratch. I may sound longwinded but there is no easy way to climb up a progress ladder in anything so it obviously applies to gunplay too. You can't just take a ladder and expect to be at the top without putting effort into climbing it. Start off right and you won't have to go back and relearn things from scratch again at a later date.

Once you're confident on at least say working with panel lining, sanding and coating as bare minimum then I would think about MG grades. Unless of course you have a lot of mulah to spend on Gunplay and doing mind messing a few in the progress of learning your skills.

Though if you must start off with MG. Try any of the original RX-78 series. The frame and general bulk and less sophistication makes it less of a work when it comes to removing seam lines and panel lining.

That's my 2 cents anyway

why don't you start with HGUC Acguy

it's a nice kit, easy to build ,have a small amout of seamline and it's cute

well for MG , i quess UC series [ver 2 ] is a good idea

Agreed with JayCee. Starting off with a HG (High Grade) will teach you what is to come in a Master Grade. Of course MG's will have a few surprises in them and when you get to those surprises those HG's will pay off from what you learned. And as JayCee said "Its cheaper" as well if you do make a mistake and decide to throw the kit against a wall.. or burn it, lol not from personal experience on last sentence. hehe. But all up to you Kasagi Yabu.

Vandalier 2009-04-28 05:51

i think it's true

a lot of people want to try MG as they first project
well i cannot blame them because maybe they like the kit itself
so they don't think about mastering the skill
but i really recommend HG for beginnner

forget SD, because you need to erase a lot of seamline
and masking it everywhere

Kelrys 2009-04-28 06:03

My first model was non-graded 1/144 Duel Gundam. Tried everything with it, lousy painting, panel lines, and kit-bash. After another 3 non-graded kits, I moved on to HG 1/144. And up to recently I get my first MG (Strike E).

Kasagi Yabu 2009-04-28 07:18

hmm..ok thanks everyone! I think I'm going to start off with an HG like everyone is suggesting. I love the strike so I think I may start with that. Accguy is simple I'm sure but I never liked that suit to be honest.
