Kimetsu no Yaiba movie
The Kimetsu no Yaiba franchise is getting an animated movie. It will cover the Train Arc.

I guess season two isn't happening any time soon then (not before mid or late 2021 at least), unless this arc isn't that important story-wise.

Anyway, my guess is since the train arc is relatively short (about 15 chapters) and the next two arcs after that are pretty long (about 30 chapters each), Ufotable is doing a movie for the train arc so they can do the next two arcs without rushing through the material too much. ^That's pretty funny.

I wonder how you fit such a short arc into a movie.....Probably ~90 mins I guess

Just watched it. Caught a late showing because my neighbors are asses.
The first 10 minutes or so felt... shoddy by ufoTable standards, but it picked up after that. The CG for the train in the second half was standard ufoTable CG that you're used to if you watched Fate/Zero or Heaven's Feel. Rengoku definitely got the majority of the budget for his big fight. There was no credit/post credit scene or announcement or anything. |

Correct.
The theatre I went to was doing a weird (though understandable for money) thing where Friday-Sunday all seats were available (though since I got a 10:30 show and a close seat, I had space on either side) and Monday-Thursday every other seat is blocked off. |
I suppose I'm going to wait until Monday to look, but I'm curious as to how the actual reception of the movie went. I'm assuming there'll be a lot of praise, between being KnY: The Movie and the usual quality of ufotable.

Score in yahoomoviesjapan so far, 4.58 out 5
https://movies.yahoo.co.jp/movie/369911/ So yeah, its pretty well received So, its scheduled to be release here on February. Sadly, with the general idiocy of our government and the people, I'm having a hard a time imagining myself going back to theaters until at least, the second half of 2021. |

Fujoshi power is ridiculous.....when you beat HFIII in records this quickly....<__<

The film made 4.6 billion yen in 3 days, something around $ 43.9 million.

Demon Slayer is now a Record Slayer.

Here's how crazy this gets:
One of the Top Brass in Japanese politics... has basically said that there should be more Demon Slayer movies. It did so well, it basically completely financed the entire industry for some time. Granted, my own personal take is this is simply ufotable doing what they do best- it's arguable they're the best animation company at the moment. |
Watched it.
Everything is for the purpose of the Akaza vs Rengoku fight. Everything. I will never know why this movie is so wildly successful but that fight was very very well done. |
I would say the success is due to three things:
First, simply because it's Kimetsu no Yaiba. It's been a loooooooong time since I've seen any any at its popularity level. Interestingly enough, while shounen, there are some things that keep it from being "super-typical" shounen, and maybe that helps- beyond being written by a female mangaka, there's little to no fanservice for boys in it (for females, I would argue that there's a heavy concentration of male characters who are good-looking), and barely any "true" shounen-style power-ups (at least, as far as I've read in the manga) Second, a HUGE factor in its popularity is that it was animated by ufotable. As I've said above, I would argue they're the best animation company at present time But the other factor is that it has very little major competition. There are other movies out, true... but none have the kind of name recognition behind them like Kimetsu no Yaiba does. |
