Hmmm... Anyone else think that the argument about the simulation near the end of ep 4, is an anime original? I don't remember that one. It doesn't make any sense how Yui can complain about it considering that the novel started with her and the imperial royal guards testing the railguns via simulators...

Ok. time to run for real this time.

Well, there's some difference between using a simulation to train for combat tactics, and using them to test the ability of individual weapons. Yui's got a big "I've fought and watched people die in the field against real live BETA" vibe going, compared to Yuuya's test pilot attitude. So I didn't see Yui being dismissive of the value of simulations per se, but of them allowing for a pilot to deal with them through ways that wouldn't work in real combat. Kind of like memorizing the patterns in Pac-man; the artificial limits of a sim let a pilot get away with things they couldn't IRL.

That said, from what we've seen of BETA, they behave like...

Actually, they really look like Zerglings and Ultralisks being commanded to attack-move and relying on dumbass Starcraft pathfinding :heh:

With Carrier-class BETA as Nydus Worms. :heh:

Judging from the back and forth you guys have been having in the other two threads, wouldn't that role be for this Superior thingamagig that's been mentioned?

Belgaesh 2012-07-25 01:12

In EP05 of the anime, there will be a mock battle between Yuuya and Yui. While Yui will be piloting her yellow Type-00 Takemikazuchi, which unit will be Yuuya piloting?

I'm curious because if he gets to fight her in even hands, with a F-22 Raptor for example, will show that japanese models aren't flawed. But if he fights her with a japanese model, like the Shiranui or Fubuki, it'll not be as convincing.

Wild Goose 2012-07-25 02:05

Yuuya will be piloting the Type-94-1C Shiranui that was unveiled at the end of Episode 4.

DoomRavager 2012-07-25 02:49

Specifically, it's a Type-94-1C that they're having Boening shove American parts in to make the XFJ-01a Shiranui II Phase 1. Then later they'll shove bits of the Active Eagle in it to make the Phase 2.

In any case, even it it's JP on JP combat, the experience ought to be convincing enough for Yuuya once he actually figures out how the Japanese model control works and finds he can toss the Shiranui about just fine.

Spoiler bro.
It's a cliffhanger anyways. We don't know if she died or not.

Imo, it'd be more of a surprise if anyone in the main cast lived then died.
