Kind of. He is a magician from the modern world. He is only a lower-middle ranked magician in our world but it turns out that magic from our world is way more advanced than the ones from the other world. This means that he can handle most people with no problem.

Yes it is now.It gradually turned into one.

The MC gets summoned with two other people from Japan, a guy and a girl. They are all friends with each other. The silver haired girl is the court magician who performed the summoning.Turns out there's a mistake in the summoning because only one person is supposed to be summoned. The one who is supposed to be summoned would be granted extraordinary strength and magic abilities. As it turned out, the MC's male friend is the hero. Only the hero is given extra powers.The three are greeted by the princess of the realm and the court magician and were take to the king. First thing the MC told the king was that he has no intention of fighting for him and that all he wants to do is leave. The hero on the other hand, who is a bit like Kouki from Arifureta,accepts. The hero tells the king that on earth, there's no such thing as magic, not knowing that his friend is actually a magician.The girl also accepts because she likes the hero(she's part of his harem).Because the king is a kind and wise ruler(unlike the scumbag kings from other series), he understands the MC's feelings and treats him as a guest. As it turned out, the King was against the summoning of a hero from another world since he didn't want to forcibly drag individuals into their world's fights. He was overruled by rulers of other countries and was forced to summon a hero. The court magician girl trains the hero and the other girl in magic while the MC stayed in his room,apparently unwilling to get out. Apart from the King and his friends, everyone in the castle thought that he's a coward who lost his wits because he's summoned to an unfamiliar land.In reality, the MC slips out of his room occasionally and studied about the world in the royal library. On some occasions, he even broke into the castle's forbidden libraries. The court magician,already suspecting that he's a magician tails him. She even sets up a trap for the MC,setting up an automaton golem that could have potentially killed the MC if his magic isn't much more advanced than this world's. She later reports to the King about her suspicions but the King decides not to interfere with the MC's activities. He instructs her not to do anything to the MC. He suspects that the Court Magician will still try and harm the MC but thought that it wouldn't be serious and that he would punish her afterwards. The MC fights the Court Magician and he totally had her owned. Even though the Court Magician is regarded as a genius, she lost because the world's magic was way too inferior. As a condition not to be killed by the MC, he forces her to sign a contract where she will die if she told anyone,especially his friends, about his true identity. Since the King already knows that the MC is a magician,he found it odd that the Court Magician was unwilling to report anything on the MC. He quickly deduced that the Court Magician was under some form of duress not to tell him anything. Nonetheless, he deduced the full story by having the Court Magician,Ferumenia Stingray,remain silent when he deduced correctly and shook her head when he didn't. He summoned the MC and had a frank talk with him.The MC tells him about how in the real world, magic users are nearly extinct due to the threat of extermination.He also tells the king that he doesn't want his friends to know that he's a magician because those who knows about it are often killed.This is because numerous people wants to keep magic a secret in the real world. The MC also tells the king that he has an idea about how to return to earth. He plans to bring his friends back with him when they've finished their hero activities. When asked about why he doesn't help the hero if he's so OP,the MC tells the king and Ferumenia that he doesn't think that either the hero or himself can beat the demonic armies who has an army of at least one million soldiers. He thinks that no matter how powerful they are, they will ultimately be overcome by numbers. Nonetheless, he doesn't stop the hero from fighting the demons because he believes that his friend isn't the sort of person to die easily. Ferumenia gets demoted as punishment for disobeying the king.The king supports the MC's actions and the MC parts way with the hero and the girl on the day the hero also departs to begin his campaign against the demons.He plans to travel to the neighboring empire but before that, he has to join a guild, since joining an adventure's guild gives him benefits such as lodging and identification. The king gives him twenty gold pieces before he leaves. When he shows up at the guild, he meets the red haired girl from the second cover. She received a divine revelation that instructs her to exchange names with people she met. The guild refuses to admit the MC because he's dressed in a tuxedo and he doesn't carry any weapons or a mages' staff.They thought that he was joking around with them. One of the guild members challenged him to a fight and was owned badly. The guild admitted him when they say how OP he is. To assess his ranking,the guild arrange him to have a duel with two powerful senior members and they too get owned.

Modern magic is vastly superior to the magic from the fantasy world in many ways. First of all, magic users from our world can use magic by using pre-drawn magic symbols. They can also use magic instantaneously without incantation(like Mahouka) or with only a few words.Some of them can use magic by clicking their fingers. This is basic for magicians from our world.Magic in the fantasy world on the other hand are like the ones from Hitsugi no Chaika, where magic can only be used after long incantations or after drawing a symbol on the spot.Only legendary class magicians are able to use magic without incantations. The most a powerful magician can do is shorter the incantation,but no where as short as magic users from the real world does. Magic in the summoned world is only restricted to eight elements while in the real world, a magician can do much more than that.It is much more inefficient and limited compared to magic from the real world. Creating a separate world like reality marbles from Typemoon are out of question for magicians from the summoned world, even though the MC can clearly do this.Overall,magic in the summoned world is extremely primitive.To counter another magician's move in the summoned world, you have to use an element that goes against that element(e.g. using water element to defend against fire element). Magicians from the modern world however can use generalized barriers that can defend against most types of magic in most situation. The most powerful move that Ferumenia(who is considered a genius) could do was to generate high temperature white flames by increasing the surrounding oxygen which the MC easily dispelled.

Overall, the MC is a combination of Tohsaka-Rin and Light Yagami(without the Death Note and the God of the New world business of course). He is born into a magician's family with his father dying one day after a research. He pretty much has to study magic himself. Personality wise, the MC's fairly cunning and arrogant. He is fairly manipulative and can quickly deduce what other people are thinking. Nonetheless,he isn't arrogant to the point where it clouds his judgement. He knows when it is alright to be arrogant and most of the time don't show it in front of other people. Usually,he tries to be unassuming or pretends to be weak.As mentioned earlier, he can do things like summon a reality marble,probably create an alternate space in his bag where he can store items as well as Hebrew magic. He is also a good swordsman and can quickly form sword by pouring liquid mercury from a bottle and solidifying it, a bit like what Kayneth El-Melloi from Fate/Zero does.People are often shocked by that because in this world, magicians are expected to be squishy and don't have any close-quarter combat capabilities. Magicians in the modern world on the other hand are like the ones from Campione!They have to be well versed in both magic and swordsmanship. The story also has a touch of Hagure Yuusha to it since the MC desperately wants to go back to the real world because he wants to settle a score with a powerful female magician back in the real world, who is potentially linked to his father's death.

Think this guy as the male version of Tohsaka Rin in terms of magician secrecy and personality (minus the tsundere aspect), with his philosophy similar to Acqua of the Back.

He describes his overall talent as a magician in the overall modern world to be slightly below average. He holds a relatively large array of spells that goes to kabbalah and old christian/hebrew (?) stuff.

He states that it's possible for the grade SSS magician in the modern world to be able to defeat the demon overlord here along with his million-strong troops, but someone like himself can probably take on only a few small armies before losing.

Is he powerful in the summoned world? Yes. He managed to take out a devil general + his army (10000?), but from what I read, this dude isn't going to win this war on his own and he can easily die if he makes a mistake.

While I do like the fights, I really dislike the female characters.

Doesn't know anything about MC being a magician (Majyutsushi 魔術師 ). MC's classmates don't even know he's a magician. Received information that a demon general went after the MC due to a noble's plot (to get pressure off the "Hero" that was summoned here), but her actions are merely of concern.

- The court magician (Mahoutsukai 魔法使い), that cover girl in vol 1.

There's some difference in the way how MC presents himself with the kanji used, but they both mean magician. This court magician used a dangerous ancient artifact doll that could have easily killed the MC if he's a normal human being, and used her strongest magic flame spell to attack MC (which makes me think of crazy bitch witch). Where's the civil option? My gosh, this backwater world, just incinerate it already.

- The half elf half something I think... Red hair girl (didn't really properly read her background).

So her backstory is some sob story of a demon general kabooming her country/town and she's the only sole survivor. I can understand her plight but it's almost as she's dragging everyone down into a death spiral of misfortune during the course of the story, and nearly got the MC killed as well when she went into a BSOD episode during the fight.

Besides that, another demon general (this particular one is a succubus) cursed her and causes her to have episodes of needing to relieve herself after using her spirit/elf (?) powers, and by relieve, yes, you can let your mind wander about that virgin snowfall and stepping everywhere with your dirty shoes. Cough.

MC is unable to remove that curse but can curbstomp it when it happens. While the girl is interested in the MC, and he might be interested in her, there's no kissing episodes or any hard sexual tension (I'm 5 chapters away from the most recent chapter).

She sticks with the other male classmate who's "the hero" (unfortunately I am incredibly bad at remembering names so the hero gets shafted, lol.). She's a closet chuunibyou, and is concerned with MC's safety, but nope, I don't see any romantic inclinations.

- The male "hero" classmate.

No gay tendencies towards the MC. Or vice versa. Yet.

Just in case anyone is wondering why the MC hasn't made any moves on the girls.

- Some future young female general far into the chapters.

Bickers with that half elf (?) who has recently turned into a bonafide loli (because she overused her spirit/elf magic). Sees MC as a mysterious character.

- Some other kingdom princess (I think)

Has not met MC, but saw the aftermath of demon general who fought against MC and is interested behind the identity of the mysterious person who defeated the general.

This is because the collective force of the hero + magicians met this injured demon general who's about to die after fighting MC and they almost couldn't defeat him.
