I think it's time for there to be a Fairy Tail movie thread. After all, a trailer has surfaced.

Miraluka 2012-02-09 13:36

The little info we have is that the plot is going to involve a Phoenix, the legendary bird of fire.

And you found this information where?

Miraluka 2012-02-09 22:34

On the video.

I did happen to notice the phoenix symbol, and that would suggest a phoenix is involved with the film. In fact, it's involved already. As a mere aesthetic. Surely there must be some reason or another for the symbol to be there since in no other part of the Fairy Tail mythos is such a symbol included. Yet you say with some level of certainty that, yes, it will be a plot device, regardless of importance. But will it really? Maybe, maybe not. There must be other details to support your claims. Some of which you may be withholding from the rest of us...or not...

It's highly integrated with the movie logo itself, I think it's a given that it's important to the film.

It could just be the mark of a new rival guild, but considering it's a movie and Natsu is a Fire Wizard, the idea it has something to do with an actual phoenix has a damn good chance of being true.

I know. I'm just so very much in the mood to learn more about the film that I'm getting a little tired of milking one single trailer and teaser site for all they're worth.

I might watch it in raw or try too anyway

The official website has been updated, the official title revealed:

Fairy Tail the Movie: The Phoenix Priestess (劇場版「FAIRY TAIL 鳳凰の巫女」)

More info can be found here: http://fairytail-movie.com/news.html

I couldn't get much of it, but apparently the main new character for this movie is named "Eclair".

And here's a new poster image:

blewin 2012-03-23 09:18

about time! FT has movie-potential with its setting and characters. I hope FT will get more movies from now on, like Bleach and Naruto. Even better if the movie can add to the main plot in the manga!

Kaijo 2012-03-24 10:43

I don't think the movie will add to the main plot in the manga. At best, it may use, or better explain, some of the more secondary plot points or technical descriptions of the world. Most likely will be a stand-alone story.

Anyway, poster looks interesting. It makes it seem like there is some link between Eclair (the Phoenix Priestess?) and Lucy. Perhaps some connection to Layla or the spirit world? A Phoenix's element is traditionally fire, so with Natsu, I'm betting there will be fire vs. fire combat. Betting Natsu will power up to defeat the big baddie by eating the special Phoenix flames. So we get another one-shot power up for Natsu.

Eclair's facial expression makes her appear a bit depressed about something, but also a bit angry, suggesting that she is either the main antagonist, or is assisting the main antagonist. But that she's ultimately a good person inside and is only doing it because she was hurt in some way.

Lastly, I took the contents of that website and ran it through Google Translate:

Spoiler for Google Translate:

Not too much detail, other than there is a conspiracy, and something about a "stone Phoenix."

FlareKnight 2012-03-25 10:39

Well, long as they can make the movie fairly entertaining it should be fine. Never have too high expectations when it comes to plots for these kinds of movies. Of course if it can deliver on nice action and a solid plot I won't mind at all.

sergel02 2012-03-27 03:45

If i get to see more of my Lucy I'll be happy.

Thank goodness she's my #1 character and not like Levy, or Cana, or Mira (tho i love them all too). In a lot of animes my fave character is always a side one.

I sense a lack of Erza in that list :)

Looks like standard movie material, I'll definitely watch this.

Here's a good english translation of the movie information currently available:

blewin 2012-04-07 03:58

wow, they even made a manga as a prequel to the movie! I hope this movie will be a real hit then

(hoping for the number of sales to be bigger than Naruto and Bleach) :p

by the way, that Eclair girls looks like the girl version of Zeref, lol.

immblueversion 2012-04-10 19:47

Just gonna leave this here.

sergel02 2012-04-11 00:52

That animation style is gonna take me some getting used to.

Tempest35 2012-04-12 19:03

...did I just hear that right?

"Miko of the Flame"?

"Phoenix", not "Flame".

sergel02 2012-04-15 14:18

Does anyone know in what time relative to the story the movie takes place? My guess is it'll follow the anime timeline.

A tune by Hallyu star Jang Keun-suk has been chosen as a theme song of a Japanese animation.

On Tuesday, a report from Oricon Style showed that Jang’s “200 Miles” will serve as the main song for TV Tokyo’s ongoing Japanese manga, “Fairy Tail.”

The news also mentioned that “200 Miles” will also be listed in his first full-length Japanese album titled, “Just Crazy,” set to hit stores in three different editions on May 30.

The album contains a total of 11 tracks including the title track “Crazy Crazy Crazy,” his Japanese debut single “Let Me Cry” and other songs including “Bye Bye Bye (album version),” “Rain” and “In My Dream,” which he performed during his arena tour last year.

The actor and singer officially kicked off his singing career in Japan in May last year with the release of his single “Let me cry,” which had topped Oricon’s singles chart upon its release.

Having many talents in the entertainment industry, Jang is currently appearing in KBS’ TV series “Love Rain” with Girls’ Generation member Yoona.

I'll link the source when i get home. Okay now that I'm reading it, I'm not sure it it's for the anime or movie. But a poster for the movie was used.

mystogan 2012-05-08 23:48

this movie looks promising , i hope it's not like some of the naruto and bleach movies, where the whole movie goes around single thing and there is little action at the end.

sergel02 2012-05-09 02:59

With the title of the movie, i have to wonder if Lucy will get a new key, like the Phoenix key. In most movies though, they seem somewhat non-canon in that what happens in the movie will never be brought up in the manga or anime even. So if she did get a new key, i have to wonder if we'd ever see it again.

Kizoku Keenan 2012-05-12 13:15

Shame there probably won't be a decent english sub version of the movie streaming for at least half a year from now *hangs head in disappointment*

looks promising though.

The official website for the Fairy Tail: Hōō no Miko (Fairy Tail the Movie: The Maiden of the Phoenix) film announced on Wednesday that voice actress Aya Hirano will perform the anime's ending theme song. Hirano will sing the ballad as her character Lucy Heartfilia.

Final Fantasy franchise composer Nobuo Uematsu is composing the song. Lyricist Goro Matsui (My Bride is a Mermaid, Eyeshield 21), who is writing the song's lyrics, previously worked on the character songs for the Fairy Tail television anime series.

What character songs did he work on before.

Anyway, super pumped. Him, Aya, and Jang Geun Suk all in one.

lostcanvas 2012-06-09 11:05

OMG the movie is so cool~ Can't wait to watch it!!
But don't really like the poster or CD cover.. it doesn't seem like the standard 4 (5 - happy) main character are being focus.. even though, the new character is the main point of the whole FT, but still quite disappointed about it

Krono 2012-06-14 13:56

A chinese scanlation of the movie prologue chapter is out.

Spoiler for Chapter Summary:

mystogan 2012-06-15 07:42

Did anyone notice the clothing in the movie is almost the same to the clothing in the anime series right now

MAX_COLA_POWER! 2012-06-15 15:14

I think that was a strategic ploy to show a filler and promote the movie at the same time.

mystogan 2012-06-15 16:04

i guess they will blend in the movie after the current arc is over

You do realize their clothes in the anime now are the same as their clothes in chapter 258 of the manga and pretty much every chapter where the characters aren't dressing up for any special occasion, right?

Ergo, these are their current, normal post-timeskip clothes.

well i do not read the manga so have no idea about it, well it seems it's the same clothing as that of manga, the thing is that in many long running animes like Naruto, many times i find that the clothing is changed a little in the movie.
but it looks like Fairy Tail does it different style

immblueversion 2012-06-23 11:01

I don't know if anyone else noticed since it's been out for a while, but I'm just gonna put this here since no one else seems to have (sorry for the low-ish quality):
