EMDAS 2011 - December (Pick a Proverb) Entry Thread

Entries! (December 1-21)
Welcome to the December EMDAS Writing Competition!
Theme: "Pick a Proverb"

November Winner: WitchOfDoubt - "The Ballet of Silhouette"

This month's theme is "Pick a Proverb".
"In your entry post, please state a traditional proverb that will serve as your entry's theme. Include this above your entry's title, so it's easy to find." -WitchOfDoubt

Entries must be submitted by December 21 (check countdown). You are permitted to post drafts and updates on this page, and the uploaded version at the countdown's end will become your final entry. Once this occurs, you are not allowed to edit your entry any further, so be sure to fully proofread it and make edits beforehand.

I'm quite confused on this EMDAS.. Do we only need a proverb for the title? Or do we also need a proverb for the entry as well?

Hiroi Sekai 2011-12-06 16:44

Your entry needs to be based off of a proverb. Say you pick the proverb "ignorance is bliss", then your entry would reflect that theme. Titles can be anything and entries don't need to use the actual proverb in it (as long as you provide it in the post-notes).

Hooves 2011-12-06 17:34

Ah, so that's what the theme means. Sounds pretty complicated having to stick to the title all the way through.

WitchOfDoubt 2011-12-12 01:32

This is not an entry.

Spoiler for Not an entry at all:

Oh wow, I almost forgot about this >.< As a tip next time, winners should pick general themes that everyone can feel easy in writing about. Things like snow and sadness could be good general themes, whilst Haruhi and something like wordplay would be difficult for people to adapt to and is not recommended.

Anyways, for now:
Spoiler for White Night:

Shh, I've actually been preoccupied this month. Christmas and family stuff, y'know.

Kismet-chan 2011-12-22 01:15

This is my first time participating in this, yay! I was bored and I had time on my hands, so... Yeah. I write on a regular basis, so it was nice to take a break from what I'm normally working on to do this. It's also probably the first time I've ever written an original short story. It's also the first time I've written something of this genre. So definitely a learning experience for me!

Spoiler for What the Dark Brought:

Thanks everyone for submitting! I'm stuck visiting the family tonight so I'll have the voting thread up as soon as I can. Sorry for the delay!

I hope it's not too late. I submit a very amateurish work.

Spoiler for the submission:

New thread is up. There's been a bit of straying from the rules this month(like use of italics, other fonts and a late submission, but hey, I'll overlook it for Christmas.;)) Anyways, definitely be sure to read up on the rules for next time here.:heh:

Kismet-chan 2011-12-23 02:17

Gah, sorry about the italics... I wasn't sure about whether or not we could use them because on the main page of the rules under 2A, only colored and underlined text were mentioned, then on page 4 of the same thread I thought you told Illusore that they were allowed, so I was really confused... >_<

Hiroi Sekai 2011-12-23 02:20

Oh bah, I apologize. That specific rule was actually changed, so you're good. That was my mistake; there's my sign to get some sleep. xD
