I thought it was a pretty good episode and had most of the elements that have made me like this series. When I saw the raw for this pop up, I briefly thought the 2nd season was here (it isn't, so don't get your hopes up). I enjoyed this one far more then ep.13. I can't wait for season 2.

Spoiler for Episode 14:

ZGMF-X10A 2010-01-19 00:53

It's been awhile since I last watched K-ON!. Can't wait for the next season :)

serenade_beta 2010-01-19 02:31

How nostalgic... Besides the artwork (thanks to Sora no Oto).
Yui's stupidity is as impossible as ever and the actual live concert scenes are as short as usual and some other unfortunately the same as usual, but it was probably the most keion-like K-ON episode so far... Which is good.
...

Still, bleh... Caught me off guard. To think this episode would appear today...

Ah, an OVA to keep us happy before Season 2.....Many thanks KyoAni

Syntron 2010-01-19 05:58

Is it just me or is this "ova" better then most of the "regular" episodes? I loved Season 1, but if this is where season 2 is going then i would like to extend the poll bar to 11.

10/10

Jimmy C 2010-01-19 07:31

It would have been a disappointment if it wasn't better than the previous episodes.

MeoTwister5 2010-01-19 08:30

I have to say that if season 2 will be like this... then I will be one happy human being. Adequately minimal moewhoring, lots of the girls coping with their shortcomings as a new band and of course, rocking it out on stage.

Here's to hoping season 2 gives us more of this.

bladeofdarkness 2010-01-19 09:40

is it just me
or is the guy who hands them the backstage pass the first male character to have a speaking role in the anime ?

Jimmy C 2010-01-19 10:48

Nope, there was Ritsu's younger brother too. He wasn't the first either.
But it says something about the male characters that people barely remember them.

SaintessHeart 2010-01-19 11:40

The director kept putting Azunyan and Mio together. An emphasis on their sisterly relationship? And AZUNYAN WITH TIGER EARS! I WANT!

I don't think a tiger bikini would look good on her though, she is a petan-

*gets slapped and clawed by his waifu*

Yikes! It is a pity that disaster scene with all of them falling down isn't show on full. It would have been great to see all their pant-

*gets poked in the eyes*

MY EYES! MY EYES! ARRRGGGHHHH!!! Right! Let's play a game and guess what is the colour of what they are wear-

*IS SHOT*
:heh:

Duckbaker 2010-01-19 11:55

Kyaaa!!

Can I expect another OVA? I need more K-on... I have been clean for a couple of months... Why? WHY! Yui's a drug. : ((

Sparvid 2010-01-19 12:08

Fun!

I was kinda expecting their "Let's throw in anything that sounds good" way of choosing stage settings would result in some rehearsal hilarity, but it didn't go anywhere.

Ritsu suggesting a spotlight on herself = :D

Nope, no more OVAs for now. Season 2 is on the way after all.

Cosmic Eagle 2010-01-19 12:20

Nice.

More music centric and development. Now balance this out with the moe-entertainment and it'll be perfect.

Really looking forward to season two.

Innocent 2010-01-19 14:22

So awesome!

It was the best episode of anime what i have seen.

But maybe i'm overflowing of nostalgic.

Miyuki-ism 2010-01-19 15:38

It was actually pretty good. I give it an 8.

Squawks 2010-01-19 15:48

So yeah, only the new year's part was manga canon.

That was some pretty good filler, I gotta say, more enjoyable then the manga.

germanturkey 2010-01-19 17:48

so is there actually going to be a season 2? like announced?

anywho, ep was good. i was hoping to hear some of the other bands, but i guess its too much to make music for them too. STILL NO DON'T SAY LAZY!!!!! RAGE. overall a good episode.

Ithekro 2010-01-19 17:49

Yui's in top form. Mio's embarrassment fuse is still fairly delicate. Azu-nyan! Ritsu wants attention, and Mugi...is Mugi, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Needs "Mugi-vision" next season....and yes it was announced they'd have one at their most recent live performance.

chikorita157 2010-01-19 18:09

It was a fun episode, but so much moeeeeeeeeee~ that it's not even funny. :o

However, so nostalgic. ... Can I survive another season... YES I CAN!...

Rating: 8.7/10

Cosmic Eagle 2010-01-19 21:19

It seems thus that if Season 2 were to follow closely with the manga it would get derided as "overly-moe" once more.

KyoAni might have to go their own route on this one...

Eater of All 2010-01-19 22:47

Nice to see an episode that deals more with the band side of things than the teatime; the balance of moe and story was much better than in the series. Now I can finally feel enthusiastic about season 2. :heh:

And man, was the animation always this good?

DragoZERO 2010-01-19 23:00

Hilarious. Good stuff. I have no complaints and I can't begin to say what I liked otherwise I'd be here all night.

And I hope Azusa's boyfriend(s) likes cat girls. :heh:

10/10

Agreed. It had the same charm the first half fo the series had. I thought the second half dragged on a little. It was still good, but not the same as it was.

Friday 2010-01-19 23:02

its been boring since they finished up......
but the OVA picked me up!!!!!:D
10/10

Spoiler for my thoughts:

Echoes 2010-01-19 23:30

Incredible episode, it captured the spirit of the series at its very best perfectly. It might just be my favorite episode out of the whole series. It had all the charm and humor I remember, and that little extra magical ingredient that makes it stand out among its kind.

I didn't know there was an OVA in the making, so this was a very pleasant surprise; a great way to finish the series off. Can't get enough Yui. :)

Vexx 2010-01-20 01:37

I was intrigued by the "competing" band.... had a bit of a feel like in "Shaun of the Dead" when our not-so-heroes encounter another group of more-like-heroes :)

This was an OVA level episode.... (better than usual). But I do hope for more musical interludes in the next season.

Sparvid 2010-01-20 02:36

By the way, how come that while it's cold enough for them to wear scarfs both in the club room and backstage in the club, they still wear short skirts?

(Not necessarily a complaint, mind you :innocent: )

Japan pop fashion culture.... it can be snowing buckets and they STILL wear skirts. The hosiery/stockings/socks just get thicker.

Echoes 2010-01-20 03:02

The pains people go through for fashion... it's frightening :p

Ithekro 2010-01-20 03:08

Not quite the level of "Sad girls in Snow...yet still in skirts" mind-boggle.

Pachael 2010-01-20 03:16

More music and chemistry and less fluff :)

Wyxor 2010-01-20 04:07

Wooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Very good continuation of the anime, got bored as hell repeating the same episodes again and again. Out at last uh hmm. Now if I just get some tissues..

fap fap fap fap fap fap

?

McMilk 2010-01-20 04:11

I was expecting a Suzumiya Haruhi "God Knows" epic-performance, or at least something close to it, since season 1 didn't really give us that. I hope they can at least do something half as good in season 2... but oh well, this was an okay-regular-like episode. 7/10.

I am her ex-boyfriend. She is my waifu now. :p

Ritsu's expression of "When the bassist strips, put the spotlight on her" sounds ridiculous. How are we going to make her strip in the first place?

I think it was trip? At least that's what it said in the Coal Guys sub...

Yeah. Sorry my mind is still under the influence of a drug called moe.

Spoiler for NSFW but lots of moe:

Everyone is still waiting for an epic like that. I was a little disappointed we didn't get to see them perform at least a little.

It was trip. If they had strip I would have read it as trip because that's what Mio did in the past.

Someone's mind is in the gutter... :heh:

Lime soda 2010-01-20 09:13

That's one crazy sticker pass. Yui swapped it over three times and it's still hanging in there. The lint from the socks should of finished it off..

Mio's back and she's still charming. Nothing too overboard but just enough goodness to make the episode even more awesome.

This episode looks like an anime original event? I would be fine if they went with something like this in season two.

CaptGloval 2010-01-20 09:26

I just love how Mio's New Year "thank you" rendered Ritsu speechless for a few seconds.

Also since this came out at almost the same time as SoRaNoWoTo, I got to watch both in quick succession, and I could really say that the two are significantly different.
