Hidan no Aria [Light Novel]
http://www.mediafactory.co.jp/bunkoj/aria/goods.html
This thread is for the sole purpose of discussing the light novel series Hidan no Aria. Seeing that the main thread is now devoted to the anime, I thought it would be appropriate to seperate novel discussion out from that thread. |
So, I'm reading volume three...

Spoiler for Kinji's Brother:
|
Ok, I think I'm nauseous now. His brother's a trap and Kinji's world basically revolves around him. I fear what this will become. :uhoh:

He also never showed any romantic interest towards his brother. Not even before. Is more like the jaded veteran clashing with the rookie... |
Kana apparently is the strongest in the bloodline and in Butei Gigh itself. I am just curious, who are the girls on the cover of volume 8 and 9.
|
At the begining I wasn't interested in the story at all but after seeing his "Hysteria mode" :heh:
Becoming a complete different being when aroused :uhoh:... Sounds like something out of a hentai story, but it ended up becoming a really interesting thing... could someone be kind enough to provide some more background on the light novels... Apart from his brother and his interesting antics  |
i wonder if crossdress makes a guy grow boobs because i just saw a pic of volume 9 of Kana in swimsuit and.... i cant believe it i saw boobs :twitch:

Let's see important stuff you should know....vol 6 is awsm because it's Reki and sniper porn. That's all. Oh and about his brother? He's kind of....a dick yeah. Not some happy otaku like Riko contrary to expectations. I swear vol 4 was the only time I ever felt like punching one of the characters in the story, namely Kana... And supernatural powers form a central element of the story. Example, Jeanne d'Arc's 30th descendant appears later wielding the Durandal blade. |
Meh, I should read ahead.
It's sad that, as a translator I know squat about what you guys are talking about. Anyways, how do you guys find the translations? I beat myself to death evernight worrying about their fluency XD |

The awesomeness that you felt from the novel after reading it should push you in translating it more. :D And it's good while it lasts. I'm not sure how to translate "感動" in English accurately, but you get that 感動 after reading the novel, you have this urge to have the other people feel the same 感動 you have felt from the novel. At least that's what I felt, and one reason I started translating v3. About your translation, it's good. In behalf of all HnA fan, I thank you and am really grateful that you took this as a pet project and still sticking to it. You translate 10x faster, and the quality I should admit is better than mine. Quote:
The tricks that she had shown in the earlier volumes are merely easy stuff compared to what she did in the first chapter of v6. |

Plus Haimaki and yar...I'm going to join Reki's worshippers. 感動? moved? That's not it....let's just say, that warm fuzzy feel and the attachment to the characters in the story. Really, it's the characters that drive this series unlike say Index where plot drives it. |
Thanks a lot guys, that was touching.
And 感動 means something like 'moving' or 'touching'. It may have been a pet project then, but now I'm dedicating a lot more time to it. ;D And really, 'twas volume 3 that really made me pick it up, so all kudos go to you. Also, thanks for all the other comments. If you compare the originals and my translations there should be a few little things that are different, but I do that to make it actually sound like English. The best part of translating is when you're translating an emotional scene and you're able to weave the words so they don't lose any of their impact. It should be just as epic and awesome when you're reading it in English as in Japanese. That said, I hope I'm able to do that? I think I did an OK job. |

Vol 3 really made me pick up something all right....it really made me pick up Riko. |

Well, I might add that I really do feel the fuzzy feeling of 感動 when I'm translating something emotional. And then I'm all like... こんな気持ちは…何だ? |
