Oh! My Goddess Movie discussion
For those who watched it, when exactly did Belldandy remember Keiichi? If you watch carefully, there's no scene where she regains her memory at all! Or maybe I haven't been watching carefully enough, but still.. ... :|
Does anyone know when she recalls? |
she...just...does
sorry been awhile since i've seen it :) |
I thought that she just relearned her memories and not necessarily remembered them, like when she was looking at the album. Another theory would be that once Celestin got the access key, the virus left Belldandy and once she woke up, she remembered everything again.
|
Actually no, she didn't remember once she woke up. First thing she said when she awoke was "I'll try hard to remember you.." something like that (mine is chinese subtitles) and later still refers him to Morisato (not Keiichi).. And suddenly bam! She remembers.
My concern about this is not really the content of the story, but about how poor the linking is, and it seems that the movie is more about fanservice. I personally found OMG! movie extremely exciting initially, given its high quality animation.. but then it's really quite shallow and achieves little. By far my greatest dislike is how the OMG! series is so episodic there seems to be little progression in the characters and general story arc. It's really becoming more mundane, and we see more of the author's progression. Belldandy appears to be more and more divine as the manga progresses; whereas initially in the start of the series she was more human-like and susceptible to human-weaknesses.. The only reason I continue to read OMG! is, of course, the relationship between Belldandy and Keiichi. But sometimes there is so little of that in a volume; or even if there is much, their relationship doesn't seem to progress very much (ie. it's so chaste they don't even formally HOLD HANDS by volume 28). It's quite ridiculous, imo. That is why nowadays, I keep fantasising of terrible things happening between the both of them to rip up another conflict. Argghh. I really wish for significant progression in the story rather than such episodic "fun" and the continual addition of new characters. Personally, if the manga ended on a scene that depicted the "wonderful world and friends we've made through this journey" (ie. like F-compo and such).. I would be terribly disappointed. o_o;; Oh well. the incoherent rants of a disappointed fan. :topicoff: |
Though i cant be sure, it could be when keiichi takes back control of his body from celestin. Right after then (When he helps belldandy fight off the big energy thingy (i think its the nidheg?)) she calls him keiichi again, rather than morisato, which she did when she didnt remember.

a better question would be....
4 years togheter... relationship blessed by heavens... they both know their feelings for each other... and they are still so dumb to keep being "just friends" why? c'mon, at this point if I would be keiichi I would have kids with beldandy already.. this manga world is too unreal!!! |

She's a goddess, it's uncertain whether she can have kids with a mortal. At least, that's what I'd argue if I supported OMG! on its plot. The series does not try to effectively deal with the system of Godesses because its simply not important to the plot (if any such really exists). It's more about episodic fun and living with an impossibly perfect woman. Bah. Keiichi must be SOOOO sexually deprived. ;) |

Although i have another question: You see in the flashbacks that celestin was taken away and imprisoned when belldandy was just a little kid. How then is he present at her ceremony where she becomes a first-class goddess? Is he there in spirit or something? Shouldent he be locked away in jail at that time? Also, god says something like "youve raised a gentle and beautiful goddess" seemingly directed at celestin. mabye this is just a bad translation but it seems like hes talking to celestin. So, it dosent make sense to me.... |

And also, that's what I'm saying. They don't have a good explanation on how Belldandy gets her memory back. It's just BAM! It's back. That's what I've been complaining all along! Not enough work is being put into the story.. argh! I want some REAL development in OMG! |
yea, i guess its just a plot hole that we will never see resolved. Anyways, we can look forward to the new tv series which will supposedly air later this year thats supposed to follow the manga.
|
I know this is slightly off topic but rather than make a useless thread for this I thought I'd ask here: what order does the series go in? (I.E. Anime series, OVAS, Movie?) Also, do the mini goddess shorts have anything pertinent to do with the series? Or are they a "Fumoffu" of sorts?
|

I'd recommended this order: OAV, Movie, Mini, and TV. You can watch them in either Japanese or English. Both language tracks sound great. |
The OVA was produced first followed by the movie and then the mini-goddess series, AMG TVCM season 1 was produced in 2005 and season will be air this year.
OVA was adapted from selected portions of the manga, the movie is a continuation (not exactly related) of the manga/OVA. the mini-goddess is like FMP fumoffu, totally an aside. The TVCM follows the manga quite closely. |

ummm what movie? i dident know of any movie!

Classic languages use in the movie
Anybody noticed the extent of the use of classic languages in the Movie: the song is in latin "Happiness is shared with friends"... and at various moments there is the use of ancient greek fonts in heaven's Yggdrasil and at the moment Celestine frees the virus on the ground. One can read at the first intrusion of the virus "warning" spelt out where "w" is spelt with an "omega" sign, and then when Celestine frees the virus the text written on the ground is "aa megamisama" and "Belldandy", both of which do not need translation.
In the TV series, the song when Belldandy puts off the fire during the beauty contest (I do not recall anymore the episode, but I think it was around the 9th) is a "Sanctus", a Catholic song. I have been unable to find the lyrics of "Libera me", another song in latin, which is used in special moments of season one (episode 23-24). Does anybody know where I could find them? |
I just watched it oh... four days ago. I liked it, but I wish I knew some more backstory. I don't have any of the comic, only the TV show that I rented from Netflix. I like the voice actors from both. Urd in the movie is awesome, voiced by Atsuko Tanaka, who plays Major Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I think it her. I can't find a cast list for OMG the movie...
Bell gets her true memories back right after Celestin grabs the virus. I think she just calls Keiichi "Mr. Morisato" because they needed the extra syllables, not because she doesn't remember him. But that's just me babbling. I'm a n00b. What do I know, eh? But seriously, the flashbacks, IMHO, just disrupted the flow of the movie just a bit. I don't like flashbacks, personally. I still think the music is fantastic. My fav is the ending credits. Where can i find those lyrics? I was going to write them down (I'm in Jap II), but i kept screwing up. |
How can you say that???
Quote:
How can you say that???? Keiichi is still so young and he don't even have a good job. How can he afford children? By the way, if they have children, the story will not be so interesting..... Just imagine Belldandy having a child...... It's sooooo weird!!! |
Do'nt forget that this is anime, and it's about a goddess. In RL, there is no such thing. So don't go on about how it's not realistic enough....
|
Well, you never know. I suppose it's possible she could have kids. After all,
she's a goddess. So you would have half-human half-goddess children roaming about and eventually having relationships of their own causing all kinds of chaos. I just feel bad for the manga-ka - if you read his comments about himself I get the feeling he's really a sexually inexperienced hermit and I suspect he wishes that something like what happened to K1 would happen to himself. I suspect the story would progress more if he had more life experiences himself. |

Libera me Lyrics
Actually, Libera Me is a part of the Requiem Mass of the Roman Catholic Church, obviuosly it is in Latin.
The translation would be your homework.... ;) |
The movie was really nice i thought. It really made you hate Celestin though...kissing Belldandy right in front of Keiichi's eyes.
I wish Keiichi and Bel had a longer kiss though, after they walked through the gate...or leave the kiss until after the situation calmed down. Plus, Keiichi should have said more at the end to put Bel's heart at ease. That's what i thought at least. Sidenote: I know they were following the manga-style of Keiichi's haircut up to that point, but it didnt really look good on him i thought. While Belldandy is nice eyecandy (lol!! :D) i thought he should have looked the way he looked in the OAV... |
I just saw the movie and have some questions.
First of, does Bell have somekind of feeling towards Celestine as a mentor or lover? I dont really know but my guess is that she respects him as a mentor. Who is that 4th goddess? I only watched seasson1 Tv, please shine some light into the matter. All I know is that she will appear in seasson2 and she looks just like Megumi. Personally I really liked the movie overall. Better visual, and the story line keeps me on edge most of the time. I was cheering for K. The ending kinda so so for me cause they could have done something more than just a simple kiss on the face after they crossed the gate. In other words the author is still hanging us by not giving much to character progression.:heh: Off topic. I heard that the japanese manga is up to vol.40+ and the story still didnt get much progress? Are they gonna go for vol100? :twitch: Even so I'm already hooked to the story, might as well stick to it and hope for a good ending. |

Dont think the mangaka would go that far. it would take at least 8 years to reach 100 volumes. Interest in AMG drops the longer he try to push it. |
thx for the info. Yea I just finished the movie like 2 hrs ago.
The first time I saw AMG series was back in 1995 in japanese and no subs. Back then I quickly faded intrest of the series cause i dont know what the hell they are talking about until I picked up a copy of Us version from Netflix recently in Nov 2006. (not sure about 1995 but I guess im close) BaM! After the first episode, I was permenantly hooked! I couldnt stop watching the series after that. When out and bought the entire seasson1 box set and the movie last week. During the month long I was like an addict saving up money to get it and it feels like forever! Anyway thx again. |
the movie for me is sweet and nice. and i just realized that there are some flaws like mentioned by some of u earlier, about when celestin is present at the ceremony when Bell graduated as a 1st class goddess when earlier she is imprisoned when bell's still a child... well, for me, maybe there is something wrong and missing from the director, or that the director thought of something but have difficulties clearly deliver it to the movie that eventually confuses us... well, if we just see it for the first time, we wont recognize it, but i just watched it for the 2nd time now (just 2nd time, i bet there is someone out there that has seen it more than me^^), and i have already watched it with my finger on the pause button to analyze anything that i find interesting. beside from that, i think the movie is nice, sweet, and enjoyable. for me, i will just ignore some of the flaws and enjoy it.
the part that i like the most is when Celestin in K1's body is protected by Bell and then K1, despite he is a human, take over his own body and celestin's power to help Bell. he said, "i dont know what is right or wrong. i just know, i dont want to live in a world without you in it." and Bam! our super K1 appears, and thats also the time when Bell said,"my beloved Keichi-san." maybe the theory that said when Keichi take over his own body and Celestin's power is when Bell remembers everything can be considered logical here^^ as for the development, the OVA is following some aspect of the manga and the ending still doesnt have anything to do with the manga until now(maybe later). as for the TV series and manga, they are following each other not mentioning some minor changes. the movie, i think if the manga-ka want to add it to the story plot in the manga, he can do it. because the manga now is stating that Keichi is like about 1-2 years living with belldandy now, got a job (not too good, but fine with chihiro). and the movie tells us that it has been 3 years since they first meet (or 4? like what Urd said in the movie. the NIT motor Club got bigger and much nicer room, and Keichi also has worked with chihiro there in the movie), so if the movie story will be in the manga, they will be added in the later chapter. but it is an IF, cos i am not the manga-ka.lol... thats what i see. i hope that the manga-ka will add it tho. i dont know whether it will be likely or not. thats what i think ^^ |
I tihink that that movie was a tade bit on the side of two way diminsons of the love and fight wars like in the classical anime.
|
Sometimes its nice to just sit down and relax while watching a simple and nice movie like this. Back to the basics.
|
Have you seen the old one?
|
Well, well. Finaly watched the movie. Compared to the series, the movie has an interesting plot, more quality in everything and even "action" szenes, like you can little expect from movies. :D
Watched the movie in High Quality with 5.1 sound. I would give the movie a 9.5/10. Good but not still awsomeness. |
I would say that Belldandy regains her memories once the virus is overwritten and she realises her feelings for Keiichi once more.
|
Watched the movie and, much like the anime, wasn't really that impressed. To me, AMG is still a story that unfolds to its best in its manga form, especially in the first volumes where there is slapstick and out-there humour that actually works. Still, I'd rate the movie above many of the series episode, especially if we talk second season...
|
I love the Ah! My Goddess movie, I've watched it loads of times as I have it on DVD :)
Celestine is my favourite character in it & the song they all sing at the end is so beautiful! :) |
Same here!! Just finished watching it again for how many times along with both series!! Can't wait till when ever the third one is being released here in NZ?
|
this was actually the first anime movie i ever bought. its production quality was fantastic for when it came out, had a powerful story, great animation, and great soundtrack.
i still remember how it ripped me apart when Bell didn't remember Keiichi... i need to go home and watch it with the subs.. dubbed youtube vids only get you so far.. |
