Technically this series is a sequel to Grimoire of Zero and takes place in the same universe. As the latter got an anime made 4 years ago, it seems that it will be made by a new studio and new staff if announced. It will also probably cover the first 3-4 volumes for a typical one cour run like most LN adaptations.

Well that's kind of interesting. I did enjoy Grimoire of Zero. Although doesn't feel often to see a story with completely different characters within the same fictional universe getting adapted like this. All the more so with the goal being to find something that was pretty darn central to that previous series.
Will check it out at least. |

So this is an adaption of a sequel series to an unfinished anime adaption...huh :eyebrow:.

Is it okay to watch this without seeing Grimoire of Zero first?

I did good on watching grimoire of zero before this.
This is a sequel of that one so I recommend to watch grimoire of zero before this. |
After pretty good Grimmoire of Zero this is step down. MC is not just generic as it gets, but he is practically literal blank slate. Heroine also isn't exactly win this time, especially as her being "spy" got resolved so quickly that I didnt even have even time doubt her and lastly it has little too many flashbacks.
I like Roux and Kudo though. Albus also grew splendidly, now her claim that "Sorenas grand-daughter is tall and busty" is no more lie :heh: Well all things considered, I think I can ignore mc being bland, he doesn't look that important anyway and mercenary with Zero are on list of characters, so with bit of luck they will pull Gundam SEED destiny on him. |

So...did the enemy die during all that? I feel like what happened to him should at least have been worth a sentence or two. Not like the guy was himself that interesting. But I think they could have spared a sentence there.
I will agree that this is a pretty solid step down compared to Grimmoire of Zero. Why couldn't we get a sequel that actually picked up from where the original left off? Zero and Mercenary were way more interesting/entertaining than anyone in this group. None of them are exactly terrible. But there's not much for me to grab onto yet. Not even sure what they do with Hort from here since her entire life's story was covered in 2 episodes. Even the spy thing isn't an issue anymore. MC has infinite magic supply. Guess that's cool. I'm going to look down on that entire school for either completely missing that fact or knowing about it and simply not telling him. I hate to agree with the hope of them quickly pulling a Gundam Seed Destiny and having the original cast steal the show away...but I kind of hope they do. At least Los is kind of entertaining. If nothing else I felt sorry for her having to put up with the students being dumb and making her life more difficult than necessary. |
I am... not eager to watch this despite liking Grimoire of Zero after seeing the panty shot on the loli in that picture. I might give it a glance if the girl and tiger guy show up at some point, but they made the last show for me.
