MS Gundam 0079 License
 

Maybe this was covered in another thread before the re-start, but I can't find a thread answering this question currently:

I know that Bandai has obtained the rights to the video footage of the original Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 ("First Gundam") series, however Sunrise refused to give Bandai the original Japanese audio track for Bandai's DVD release resulting in Bandai having to release the MSG DVDs exclusively English dubbed.

In this case, can the original Japanese language version of MSG be considered R1 licensed?

I've never seen the show, but I love (and own in R1 form) Gundam 0080, MS 08th Team, and I enjoyed Gundam 0083 in spite of the weak plot and forced love story. I refuse to watch MSG dubbed, and without official R1 DVDs supporting the original language track I see little choice but to resort to getting fansubs.

Yes the series the is considered licensed even though Bandai didn't include the japanese track. If you want to see MSG then get the movie trilogy which is available in sub format only.

Let's all just watch the subs.

Thanks for letting me know about the format of the compilation films. I'll watch 'em, but I'm too much of a completist to settle for just the "newtype" focus of the original series. Fansubs it is then.
