Wait, Mari Okada? She's DIRECTING a movie?

Pocari_Sweat 2017-07-05 08:16

What the o_O

MeoTwister5 2017-07-05 10:06

Ayy LMAO.

This is her directorial debut right?

Kakkou 2017-07-05 11:36

The core staff is almost a Nagiasu reunion with a few absences and Okada directing on top of writing while Shinohara steps back to serve as chief director. I am very curious as to how she will fare. Kenji Kawai music should be something to look forward to as well.

this is exciting. looking forward to this one. she's definitely gotten better over the years. and true tears is still a favorite of mine.

Okada said that the film's story "will be about contact between people with interwoven meetings and partings. The story will depict a human drama like everyone has experienced at some point that gradually pierces the heart."

Okada commented on her role in the film: "As a screenwriter, I've wanted to write this story for a long time. As a director, to be able to affect things beyond the script, such as the video and sound, is both a pleasure and a challenge." She said that she chose to become a director after P.A. Works CEO Kenji Horikawa said to her that he "wanted to see a work where she gave her full 100%," and thinking about what that meant. In the end, she decided that becoming a director – with their responsibility of heading the group effort of anime production, and giving directions to each team of a studio from beginning to end – was the best way to achieve that, and asked Horikawa for the opportunity.

Well, here we go... a new background collection...

also OOOKAAADAAA!!!

Pocari_Sweat 2017-07-06 07:49

Is it just me or does that PV remind people of a Ghibliesque film?

MeoTwister5 2017-07-08 21:31

Given what she says the story is about, she has a huge wall to climb.

Haak 2017-07-09 04:19

Well, well, well...

Thats a okada film alright. I think half the PV had someone crying.

Aside from that, not gonna lie, visually it looks stunning and being a fantasy genre film is also a plus. However will the film actually be good? Only time will tell.

At least I have much more faith in this than that idol moe horse racing horseshit that PAWs next TV series is.

EDIT: one thing i did notice is thay cygames was listed as being on the production commitee on the main sayousa website. Does that mean this is going to be long term parternship or something?

Archon_Wing 2017-12-13 19:49

lol I can't even tell it's a PA Works thing. (Or Okada) Will look forward.

I had a feeling that the moment I heard Chiaki from Gamers, Iwami Manaka would be the next Okada heroine (sounds a lot like Kayano Ai... even with Children of the Whales, people at first thought it was Kayano who did the heroine). Then I saw the PV and immediately recognized her voice... actually that's a lie, as I thought it was Kayano Ai first, until I actually heard the other voice who is much closer. Then by process of elimination told me that the first voice I heard must have been Iwami. XD

So yeah, I'm a bit sad Okada seems to be skipping Ayaneru (Ayaneru in an Okada work when?), but Iwami is actually my favourite up-and-coming seiyuu, so I'm not too salty.

As for the film itself, it does look gorgeous. There's only a couple of Okada works I didn't like, so it's almost guaranteed I'm going to like this one. My only question is... can PA Works do some negotiating overseas to get this released across the Pacific? I mean, Okada's previous anime films (Anohana and Anthem of the Heart) both got a theatrical release, albeit limited, so why not this one too?

But if I'm being a bit too subtle there... ELEVEN ARTS YOU BETTER DAMN WELL GET THIS RELEASED HERE IN CANADA TOO!!!! :heh:

Okada unleashed: Electric boogaloo.
Ie another trainwreck with nice visuals.

That's funny. When I heard her voice my immediate reaction was "Oh hey, it's that girl from Whale Calves that sounds a lot like Ai Kayano". :heh:

[EDIT]

Funnily enough Ai Kayano actually has a role too. :heh:

It appears Makoto Shinkai saw this at a pre-screening (it screens to the public on Feb 24) and he said that he loved it and that he was "jealous to see this level of quality in a directorial debut"

Be it true or not, just the notion of that has me laughing. Shinkai jealous of Okada. :heh:

Archon_Wing 2018-02-18 00:20

Hmm, it does seem like the Okada and PA Works combo is very strong. I recall Jun Maeda praising True Tears very heavily and thus Angel Beats was made, for better or for worse.
