END CARD GO!

Dynamic tag cannot be rendered. (PrintableThread)

Rakshasa 2012-09-22 10:29

Awww, this was a bit of a letdown, was expecting something more like an actual player.

Leon_Lelouch 2012-09-22 10:36

Spoiler for ?:

was hoping that the end card would show Kirito, Asuna and Yui with their happy face...:(

My Kokoro!

But the previous end card already had that no? With the three of them?

Yeah, only chibi-fied at a picnic rather than regular proportions.

It was as awkward episode as I thought it would be, who is Yuriel's VA, cba to look from credits, sounded familiar.

Well, the explanation of Yui's identity should surprise absolutely no one -- I mean the OP pretty much gives it away and most people came up with the correct theory last week. But now that the truth is out, anime-only viewers can at last be introduced to the great debate -- "Is Yui an NPC?"

The inclusion of Kibaou is a nice callback and explains exactly why the Army turned out the way it did, but I really would've liked to see some closure instead of it being dealt with off-screen..

ETA: When did Bright Noa become a guild leader?

relentlessflame 2012-09-22 14:34

Okay, well, let me get out of the way the really obvious thing: it sure was convenient that Kirito was a hacker who could understand the language of The Matrix Cardinal and could convert Yui into an in-game object on his first try on an insane deadline! I mean, not that I'm necessarily doubting that he's a pretty hardcore geek... but how would he even know the commands? :heh: I think it would be a bit better if, rather than "hacking" they could have just done something like shown her be converted to an object that was then going to disappear and he grabs out and saves it or something. It conveys the same point without being quite so... lulzy? to anyone who actually knows anything about computers. (This is like what someone who doesn't understand computers thinks about people who are good with computers -- they type at a million words per minute and magic happens that's beyond understanding! :heh: )

Anyway... that aside, I enjoyed the episode. There sure are a lot of parents who bought this VR game for their kids! :heh:

Probably will have more to say in a bit, but will re-watch first...

Edit: Having her be converted into "Yui's Heart" is actually a pretty clever call-back to Episode 4 with "Pina's Heart". But I suppose that, because Yui's not a familiar, that same trick won't "revive" her.

Why are you surprised? I'm pretty sure by this point you should already know Kirito can do anything the plot demands him to do. Whatever you need, he can do it. Well, except cooking. After all, if he could do that too there would be no reason to have Asuna on board....

Given that he was already logged in with a GM account I don't see why he would be required to do anything like hacking in the first place. The visual representation of it was pretty funky though. You'd expect it to look like a normal computer UI, Windows or something.

Gearhead 2012-09-22 14:48

Once you have a danish, you can do a lot.

Her VA is Shiraishi Ryoko.

He was using Yui's account on the console. That's what he said anyway. I guess the system doesn't care who's typing on the virtual keyboard after it's summoned.

The fact that he used to be a beta tester is also completely 100% irrelevant here and has been for most of the series, so I'm not sure why that thought even came to mind.

Yeah, didn't have subs when I watched it the first time so I didn't get that little detail. Still, knowing exactly what to do, and in what little time he had.... well, no matter how you look at it, it doesn't seem that believable.

Gearhead 2012-09-22 15:01

There is, of course, another thing to take into account.

Just what sort of computer geek WAS Kirito before he got involved in VR gaming anyway? Was he a gaming geek or was he more interested in the nuts and bolts of things?

ZGMF-X10A 2012-09-22 15:01

going to miss YUI.

Yeah, I think that's really the main thing, and why I called it "hacking". At first he's just typing and there's no screen. And then later screens appear, but it's like The Matrix - just random symbols. I have no doubt that the ability to do this is possible with the level of credentials he had, but I don't think he could have known what to type because he would never have used that particular system before (particularly when there's no display!). As you say, if it was like a normal computer AI -- or more realistic, an SAO UI that just had additional Administrator options like you'd normally expect -- then no problem. Perhaps he could see things in his own NerveGear display that we couldn't see?

So yeah -- I think it's just the way it was presented that's a bit odd. The idea that he could use the GM access to access protected functions, I can buy.

Edit: Other than that... I guess this episode sheds a bit more light on the game's apparent development process. Obviously the team programming this game had expected that they would need player monitoring and assistance as part of the normal operation, hence why they build an empathic AI like Yui. But then, with Kayaba's sudden move, all the rules changed, and Yui's purpose was eliminated. So, in case there was any doubt, it clarifies what Kayaba's goal was: it's like a science experiment -- you initiate the situation, and then just watch to see what happens without interfering. Even the whole operation of the world is apparently left in the hands of the AI. Pretty twisted, but we already knew that...

Thanks, so she was from Xros wars, no wonder it sounded so familiar.
