Action should be good, finally a large battle type of Alnus and Italica.

Apparently these are US Rangers.

I guessed they weren't Gurkhas, they don't use parachutes (old joke).

The pic is of someone doing a HALO jump which is not what's coming up in the next episode, of course. No gear bag either, it's all conformal. Weird.

Awesome episode. The JSDF is really not to be underestimated.

Idk how many died this episode but the Empire really took quite the toll. Zorzal's face was also a priceless sight to see. There's a bit of a close call at the end but I think it's nice to see that the mission was successful on most parts.

Itami's driving was also neat, the guy cares a lot about his comrades so it came to me as no surprise that he wanted to be there to help them.

second season much better than the first, huh.

DemonneoPT 2016-03-18 13:48

Nice episode! The only thing that was missing were the GATE characters reactions to the JSDF performance against the Empire's soldiers, especially when they arrived at Jade Palace. Culture clash is one of the most interesting themes in this story and the studio keeps on skipping on it. Oh well...
At least they showed Zorzal's reaction..lol.

Wow. They sure went overboard with Pina screaming there. In the first place, what exactly cause her to be in that state?

Normally I'd say isolation and cabin fever make people go crazy. However, she hasn't been in there THAT long, has she? Unless they're just bad at showing time elapsing.

Hell, it's not as if she was tortured/raped or anything. That scene was really dramatized to the highest heavens, IMO.

It shouldn't be that long to cause someone to go absolutely mental, but I'm more interested to know how her imprisonment was portrayed/handled in the novels.

Man, so much death and carnage in this episode. Kengun x Beefeater was also pretty cute. :3

I kinda dislike how the princess became the damsel in distress. She honestly didn't do anything real important in these 2 seasons except became the mediator between the Japanese and Empire...and looked how that turned out. At least we can always count on Itami to save the day!

I guess being held inside that confines was a harsh reality check for her, as the comforts of luxury were gone, to along with the obligatory hot baths (not to mention being depraved of BL material). :heh:

In a way it's almost comical watching the military precision of this mission. Of course the way they are trained is the way they are trained, but it's almost silly to the level they are taking their own attack seriously. Fighting an enemy a few thousand years behind them in tech. Long as they have more bullets than enemies it's a cake walk. But I suppose if you're going to do something, might as well go all out. Not often they get to go out and fight anyways and have it be against such a weak opponent.

Not even sure what Itami is worried about. Basically the only way for someone on the Japanese side to die is if they accidentally shoot themselves. I mean all that carnage and at most one person got hit in the arm with an arrow....

Things have gotten kind of sad with Pina. Full tilt into damsel in distress mode, she's just falling apart and all they've done is locked her up. She hasn't even had particularly harsh treatment as a prisoner. Oh well Itami will save her next episode so that will b resolved soon enough. It's just a bit silly how completely she's fallen apart with little prodding. Being locked up can be pretty darn intense to be sure, but....that's all that's happened to her. I'm just going to presume she was treated far worse in the novels and they just decided to keep scenes of her freaking out for the sake of drama.

i just assume she was born and raise as a royalty, just imagine your current good life, watching anime, browsing internet, online gaming, hangout with your bro, Then you got kidnaped and sold as labor slave in some backwater country, yeah i would do the same thing like pina i guess, though i admit her scream do sound a bit too much (unless it actually pose as a hint of some "offensive" offscreen play right there)

And zorzal.... I know i keep repeating this but, how dumb can one person be, asking a military advice from your sex slave.... If zorzal live in our current world he would be a total loser right now

I WAS hoping that the author would make a joke reference with the soldier got hit by an arrow on his knee :p but alas... that was a gold chance there :heh:

The empire soldier do actually have small fighting chance if they use ambush and their surroundings though, but yeah it was a surprised attack so all they can do is charge forward i guess.

Brother Coa 2016-03-18 15:45

Entire episode described in one video:

IT WAS EPIC AS HELL!!! :D

And I didn't mind that they rescued some previous scenes from anime at all in the fight. ( like F-4 Phantoms vs Empire Dragoons fight )

Too bad it was just extraction action and not full fledged assault. Still I expected a good episode and it delivered. :)

Now all that's left to do is Princess Pina rescue by Itami and company and we can put this show on hold until season 2 hit us 1 or 2 years later.

But I agree with the rest, Pina's screaming coudl have been done a little better but hey... explosions and democracy. :)

1. This was military operation, of course they are going to be serious and show professionalism even against those opponents - that's how real military acts. No matter who are they fighting against, mere rebels or professional army, they are always taking their duty seriously. Especially JSDF who still carry the ways of the samurai for their military training and moral values.
2. This was rescue operation when you look at it. They only saved the imprisoned people and evacuated them. I have no doubt that they would overrun them properly if not for politicians who still want to have peace with the Empire without them ruling over it.

I agree with Brother Coa on the professionalism part. Once you start taking your enemy for granted he can start getting the upper hand regardless of the technology level. Carelessness costs lives, and an arrow or club can kill you as dead as a bullet can.

I liked that the synchronizing of watches coincided with the start of the OP :)

"Live up to those wings on your chest!" I think they did, sir, I think they did.

Zorzal has developed a serious dependency on Tyule's counsel. Sucks to be you, Zorzal! :D

Pinya sure wasn't happy. I don't think its a case of simply a privileged person being tossed in a dank dungeon. I think she realizes the capitol was under attack, and all her hard work for peace with Japan has just gone down the sewer. She has shown she genuinely loves the Empire and wants it to survive and thrive, and there she is, unable to do squat with a ringside seat to her nation's destruction.

Next week: the Great Itami Prison Raid! Having Bulletproof Rory, Mage-Canon Leilei and Thunder-caller Tuka along is sure gonna help! Oh, and Assassin Yao too!

Anh_Minh 2016-03-18 16:26

I know they had to leave something for Itami to do, but I find it rather silly no one considered rescuing Pina. Before launching the mission, I mean.
