YES!! A complete remake of the Yozakura Quartet anime was just announced during the Yozakura Quartet OAD & Devil Survivor 2 anime nicolive broadcast.

It will start over from volume one of the manga but will have some anime original take on the early material by ryochimo and Yasuda in order to avoid rethreading the same ground again. The cast will of course be the same as it has been.

I screamed. I actually screamed out loud while watching the stream when they made the surprise announcement. :D

Just to remind people who the anime cast are:

Yuki Kaji as Akina Hiizumi
Misato Fukuen as Hime Yarisakura
Miyuki Sawashiro as Kotoha Isone
Saki Fujita as Ao Nanami

Ai Matayoshi as Rin Azuma
Aiko Ōkubo as V Juri F
Daisuke Ono as Kyousuke Kishi
Haruka Tomatsu as Touka Kishi
Natsuko Kuwatani as Yae Shinatsuhiko
Rie Tanaka as Mariabelle
Sachi Matsumoto as Yuuhi Shinatsuhiko
Tomokazu Seki as Enjin/Gin Nanami

Hopefully it will have the tsundere song again! Regardless I'm looking forward to this.

YEEEEES!!! Great news!
I've read a tweet but thanks for the confirmation!

Always wanted to get into this but never got around to. Are they doing a remake now because the manga is nearing its end?

I haven't been keeping up with the manga but from what I've gotten from ryochimo's comments, they already intended to do a new tv anime but changed to a remake because they couldn't think of a good starting point. The first OAD series already covered Rin's arc and it's not like they could pick off from the TV anime's ending point due to the differences.

That's also the reason why the early material will not be adapted completely the same as the manga and will have some original content/approach so that people already familiar with the manga or first anime can get something new out of the material that was already used.

Huh, and I'm like, still less than halfway through the first anime.

How many episodes will the remake be, exactly?

A whois on domain name shows this :
Quote:

[Domain Name]YOZAKURA-ANIME.JP
[Registrant] Ishizuka Yuuichi
[Name Server] blueberry.pierrot.co.jp
[Name Server] dischidia.pierrot.co.jp
Same results for Studio Pierrot's domain (pierrot.jp) : does it mean Studio Pierrot will produce the series?

Regarding the anime original content, some of it will be stories that Yasuda didn't get to include in the manga, but apparently still happened. What a treat for the manga fans!

I remember the first Yozakura Quartet anime to be utterly generic and forgettable (I actually don't remember much of it besides the tsundere song) but I saw some parts of the OAD which looked pretty darn amazing. Kinda excited for this especially since they're keeping the OAD staff.

Synopsis looks interesting, I heard the first TV anime was underrated but I found the OVA's images to be amazing. I will probably watch the remake to see if it's good.

Kakkou 2013-04-04 20:36

Yasuda announced that the subtitle for the remake is Hana no Uta. I'm guessing it'll cover the material up to the Hoshi no Umi arc (OAD Series 001)

This is getting a remake? That's fantastic news!
I watched the both the OVAs' and the first anime, IMO the OVA was better than the anime. I hope they will keep the OVA character designs. :)

WHAT? Not once did I think this one will get a remake :heh:.

Great news of the day. As someone who's still following the manga, and didn't like the anime much, I'm glad to see this series gets more attention.

The same director/character designer as the OADs is in charge of the remake, so there should be no worry about that unless they choose to go for a slightly different look from the OADs.

EDIT: Thank you to the mod who changed the thread title! :D

EDIT 2: More info.

It's not so much a remake as it is a parallel story penned by Yasuda himself. The first two episodes are original and based off events that occur alongside the manga that Yasuda didn't get to put in the manga. In the third episode the story will meet up at a certain point in the manga. BTW, the screenplay for the anime has already been done. ryochimo is a hard worker. ;D

That's pretty cool news. Didn't think this series would get a remake.

No complaints about this :).

com_gwp 2013-04-07 16:33

BRILLIANT. This sorely needed a remake, and the OVAs were proof of that. :D

Saw the anime over the weekend. I really liked the last 3 episodes and the begining but everything imbetween was...not good. The first ova though was really great. So im looking forward to this since their keeping the director (but oh god fix akina :heh: )

Leo_Otaku 2013-04-09 21:06

Awesome I really wanted to see this show when it first came out but was super disappointed. Now there is something to look forward to!

LKK 2013-04-09 21:22

*sigh* Once again, I'm in the minority with regards to the character designs. I preferred the first show's character designs to the OVA's and to the ones I've seen here. But I'm so happy that the show is getting a remake. I'll just pretend the characters look like their earliest anime incarnation and watch on anyway. :)
