Well that's a surprise. I don't know how Princess Principal actually did sales wise but it must've done well enough to get this greenlit.

I'll wait till I have more details on what direction they intend to take this sequel. For all the crap this show had, I also thought it had a lot of heart and potential to it. The question is whether the writers will feel more emboldened to explore that potential or if its just gonna be more of the same mix.

Haak 2018-04-29 07:56

The official Twitter account for the Princess Principal television anime announced on Sunday that production on a sequel project has been green-lit. The project will be six films which will play in theaters starting next year. The project will be an entirely new project (as opposed to a compilation) that tells a story after the final television series episode.

I personally don't like how the sequel became six movies. Six movies meant a heavily staggered production process and a huge possibility to disappoint fans. Remember Digimon Adventure tri? The hype already died out by the time the sixth movie was released. Won't be surprised if it happened here too.

Why can't they do it like Strike the Blood Second that's just a series of OVAs? Since it's a movie, it gotta have movie-tier production values. The OVA format would have given them enough leeway to maintain a presentable level of production quality.

That had nothing to do with a staggered release and everything to do with 70%+ of each movie being nothing but fluff to increase the run time. Plus making characters act like idiots to advance the plot.

Like GDB said above, quality mostly dictates the success. Look at Gundam Unicorn & Gundam Origin OVAs/movies that took years to complete. They never ran out of steam because they are actually good and fans will always come back for more and they even attracted newcomers and their home video sales dwarf many big and popular anime titles out there. In the case of Unicorn, instead of diminishing return, each entry/episode makes it even more popular and it reached the highest of popularity during the last episodes. Origin is still airing and the final episode will come soon but so far, it's really good.

The seiyuu that voiced Ange has retired, so who's going to voice Ange in the sequel?

I'm hoping they find a good replacement, but damn that sucks. :(

Also, a key visual:

Ange will be voiced by Aoi Koga now.

Why did she change voice actors?

Her previous seiyuu retired because of health issues. It was mentioned even in this thread a couple of posts above.

Wow, it's actually happening.

I thought the end of this trailer was rather intriguing. Is the old guy referring to Ange as Charlotte Denka? The trailer joins together two scenes that may or may not be sequential in the film (I'm guessing not). The guy turns and says something that ends by addressing the comment to "Charlotte Denka." The next shot focuses on Ange. Maybe the girls' flip-flop will be the story.

Dynamic tag cannot be rendered. (PrintableThread)
