memory loss/alteration

Looking for anime about memory loss or any other kind of memory alteration. Anime with characters that have split personalities would also be good.

Examples:
kaiba
ef - a tale of memories
zegapain
tenshi na konamaiki
code geass
gift ~eternal rainbow~
kurozuka
vampire knight
utawarerumono
darker than black
shoujo kakumei utena
elfen lied
shingetsutan tsukihime

It doesn't have to be the main focus of the show, just more than a few episodes.

Princess Tutu, dont let the name fool you, its a fabulous anime. One character has memory loss, another has kind of a split personality.

Higurashi is good for personality disorders. Not really memory loss but time repeating itself.

Heavy second for Princess Tutu...

Eden of the East
Kanon (2006)
Ergo Proxy
Casshern Sins
Blood+
Noir

Though I usually write descriptions, it's probably better simply to list shows to avoid potential spoilers:

Eden of the East
Monster
Dennou Coil
Angel Heart
Guin Saga
Kurozuka

Ayashi No Ceres
Asu no Yoichi
D.C
Ergo Proxy
Gunslinger Girl

H2O
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien
Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun
Tsubasa Chronicles
Tsukihime
Suki na Mono wa Suki Dakara Shou ga nai!!

I think The Big O fits this trope rather well.

Rawgers 2009-07-07 23:14

Casshern Sins
Guin Saga
Higashi no Eden
Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~
Xam'd: Lost Memories

Yay?

Eden of the East would probably be right up your alley. Recovering memories plays a significant role throughout.

Eden of the East was a trip, but without the movies yet to be released, the story is awfully incomplete.

Still and all, I enjoyed the hell out of the TV anime.

n'thing Gunslinger Girl, specifically the first season. Memory loss is one of the many themes played with in this series. But it's worth watching simply because it's just gorgeous. And it has one of the best first episodes ever.

I would also recommend Eden of the East. The story starts out with a Japanese guy butt naked with no memories, with a gun and a phone charged with 10 billion yen, in front of the White House.

Persona trinity soul - very similar to Zegapain in terms of melancholy and hopeful atmosphere. Memory loss too.

libba 2009-07-11 14:51

No one mentioned Pandora Hearts - one of the main characters not only loses her memories and has to recollect them, but also... that might be a spoiler, let me just say that it seems pretty similar to the request.

I would recommend Eden of East or Higashi no Eden . Its Bourne Identity meets Roman Holiday . A tourist who is on her visits White House encounters a naked man with a gun who suffers from amnesia . And together they embark on a journey . Is the naked man a terrorist or a victim . An aura of mystery surrounds him and he has the world at his Disposal , a phone call away .

As the protagonist dwell deeper into the past they are getting themselves embroiled into something sinister . Will they come on top or fail miserably thats Eden for you .
