Romance/comedy

I'd like some (good) romance series. I like them with comedy, and a small spice of ecchi and harem. (Note the 'small spice' part. Meaning, it's not something that it needs, just a little possible extra :p )
I've already watched quite alot of this kind, and I can't seem to find any good ones anymore. It doesn't matter if there's action in it, as long as it's not overused (like Bleach, not that it's a romance/comedy anyway. Well, it does have a small prescence of the two, but it's very faint.)

Hope ya guys can help a poor fellow otaku out.
Oh yeah, I'm new here. Yoroshiku. (Please, smite me if I spelled that incorrectly.)

Like:
Mahoraba
Girls Bravo
Shuffle!
Magikano
Ah! My Goddess
Love Hina
Chobits
Fruits Basket
Mahoromatic
Honey and Clover
Tsukuyomi -Moon Phase-
Amaenaideyo
Shakugan no SHANA
Ichigo 100%
Suzuka
Midori no Hibi
Kanon
Onegai Teacher
Onegai Twins
Full Metal Panic
Full Metal Panic Fumoffu
Kashimashi

Dislike:
School Rumble (It was good, but I just couldn't keep watching it for some god damned reason. I even tried giving it a second chance.)

rooboy 2006-06-26 22:46

It would help some if we had an idea of what you've seen that you liked and didn't like.

For the "faint harem" style, you might try Lamune - it's kind of a slow paced, slice-of-life romance/comedy that switches back and forth between the characters as children and adults. Canvas 2 is also popular in the genre, though I personally can't stand it.

Actually, the show you should watch is Ouran High Host Club. It's a reversed harem (one girl, many guys) with a lot of comedy and very little ecchi.

Examples... Huh... Well, that'll be tough.

Now, that's quite a list, and I'm sure I missed a few too.

physics223 2006-06-27 03:31

Honey and Clover will fit the bill here perfectly, I think. YAY!

rooboy 2006-06-27 07:21

Except it's already in the list .... you need glasses ... (luff ya physics).

Well, those shows were a bit more harem than I was thinking ... you might try Kage Kara Mamoru (ninja harems ftw!).

I had a total brain meltdown and forgot to recommend Karin earlier, it has a lot of the same types of humor harems have (without the annoying actual harem) and is about a vampire girl (though she's nothing like Hazuki from TMP).

physics223 2006-06-27 07:33

On the list of the OP? I don't think so.

Yeah, I've read Toxic's list. I saw that.

Incoan 2006-06-27 07:58

I might suggest you Midori No hibi. It has both romance and comedy and there is no harem nor ecchi (or maybe there was some ecchi... Can't remember =) ). Seems to fit your requirements perfectly.

There is also Ai Yori Aoshi. People seem to like this series , but I actually found it quite boring. Still, it is a romance\comedy with some ecchi\harem mix.

Toxic 2006-06-27 08:45

Already watched Midori no Hibi & Honey and Clover. I'll check out the rest.

Toxic _was_ the OP. I asked for a list, Toxic provided it .... three hours later you recommended a show that was already on the list....

Also, I just noticed Shakugan no Shana. If you liked Shakugan no Shana, you might give Fate/Stay Night a try. Like Shana it's primarily an action series, but it has comedic and romantic elements to it.

EDIT: cut out the Midori no Hibi bit as I posted at the same time Toxic was posting.

Truth-kun 2006-06-27 08:52

Here's my list

I''s (The best Romantic/Comedy/Ecchi Manga I've known and read. 6Part OVA good too)
Ichigo 100% (Don't watch the anime. Its that horrible)
Suzuka (The anime and the manga are both very good, but do watch the anime first)
Midori no Hibi (Anime skips some parts of the manga, but I don't mind.)
Honey and Clover (Although definitely not a Harem, the romance and the comedy here will both make you laugh and cry - sometimes at the same time O_O)
Love Hina (Watched a few episodes, its interesting XD)

Toxic 2006-06-27 08:56

As I said, I've already watched Midori no Hibi. I kinda forgot to list it.
Fate/Stay Night seems like just a tad bit too much action. Prove me wrong.

[Edit]
Changed the list a bit. Scroll up.

physics223 2006-06-27 09:24

ZOMG. You're right! I read the posts, not the names. :D

Oh, and to add: Hiatari Ryoukou and Touch are good series, though I haven't seen much of Touch.

Toxic 2006-06-27 09:31

I have a little trick for avoiding such a thing. Recognize people by their avatars :P

physics223 2006-06-27 09:34

Some guys change their avatars everyday, so ... meh. I thought it was just another list given by some trying-to-be-helpful-guy, so meh again. Though what I really meant was that there was nothing on H&C on your first post, so I just shot it (among my faves, and the genre's right, so yeah).

Oh, and H&C II is coming on Thursday! YAY!

Toxic 2006-06-27 09:36

I added the list to the first post to avoid further confusion.

physics223 2006-06-27 09:43

NP, man ... and y'know, rooboy likes catching me in my pants. :) haha lol

Toxic 2006-06-27 09:50

Heh, well, I thought it was neccesary ->_<- (Haha, umeboshi :D)

Note to people who didn't get that:
Watch Mahoraba.

Luff ya, physics. :)

If you liked Chobits, I guess I'll make the obligatory DearS recommendation (think Chobits with Aliens instead of robots and you won't be far off) ... some people like one, some people like the other, maybe you're one of the ones who'll like both. :)

Touch, Kimagure Orange Road, and Maisson Ikkoku would be considered the "classics" I suppose .... I think only KOR and MI are licensed.

Another series that has a lot of the harem-style humor (slightly ecchi, mostly off color) without the actual harem is REC. It's about a voice actress who falls in love with a salaryman.

Toxic 2006-06-27 16:41

I've watched 2 episodes of Karin now, and I'm liking it so far. I also noticed that it's made by JC staff, which is a good thing ;)

Radiosity 2006-06-27 18:43

Romance + some action (not the main focus of the show though) + Very little dumb and pointless ecchi (there are some minor panty shots, not much else) + a lead guy who isn't an idiot, isn't indecisive, gets together with the lead girl from the start, and proves himself to be one of my favourite male leads + lots of other awesome stuff that most harem anime tend to do wrong.

And the name of this series?

Narue no Sekai (Narue's World). One of my absolute favourite romance animes, and it's just a shame it's only 12 episodes. The romance revolves around the main character's relationship with each other, so it doesn't spend the entire 12 episodes with him trying to win her over, which I found so refreshing after all the Shuffle! and other romance harem animes recently with an indecisive male lead who can't make up his mind for 26 episodes :)

Toxic 2006-06-27 18:50

Hm, doesn't sound like my kind of show cause I kind of like the things that you consider "wrong".
Even though I watched and enjoyed "His and Hers" and enjoyed it, and it sounds like Narue no Sekai is pretty much like it, I don't think I'd like this. Thanks for the advice anyway. I might check it out if I run out of animes to watch :p

Radiosity 2006-06-27 19:31

I don't consider them wrong, I'm just fed up with the usual crap that harem shows throw at me. But since you don't seem to have watched that much anime you're probably not bored of it yet. I'm on nearly 250 complete series, and after a while the harem formula really gets tiring. Narue no Sekai is a really nice change from that.

Don't get me wrong though, it stands on it's own merits completely as well. But if you want a nice romance anime (which you said you do) then you should check it out. Incidentally, Narue herself is an alien, so there are quite a lot of sci-fi influences too.

Well whatever, I loved it to bits and frankly it's your loss if you don't bother watching it.

rooboy 2006-06-27 20:17

I might try that one (never heard of it before). I'm not necessarily impressed with something just because it's different. OTOH, after a while it gets difficult to discover series that I've never heard of, so that's impressive on it's own.

Toxic 2006-06-27 20:22

250 series?! Wow, that's alot. I've watched quite alot of animes, but not nearly as much as you. I guess it's the age difference ;)

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I won't be bored with the "harem style" for quite a while. I probably will sometime, though. (On my grave I will! Hahahh.. ha... hah.... Eh? What are you looking at?)

Radiosity 2006-06-27 21:12

rooboy - yeah I hadn't heard of it either. Can't actually remember exactly how I found it now, but it was something completely random, I know that (might have been a random picture I found online I think).

Toxic - yeah I've seen a fair amount :) That's over the last few years, but mostly in the last year and a half or so.

rooboy 2006-06-27 21:18

I'm not sure if it's as many as you think it is .... I own well over 125 anime dvds (not series on dvd, but dvds), and that's a small fraction of the anime I've seen, either rented, on TV, or fansubbed.

Though I've never really gotten tired of harem cliches either, but on the other hand, when I don't want to watch harem series, I just watch something else entirely. I've always tried to watch things in moderation. :)

Radiosity 2006-06-27 21:47

Well I still watch harem shows and find enjoyment in them of course, but Narue was just a real gem for me, I enjoyed it immensely simply because it didn't do some of the incredibly annoying things that harem shows often do. I won't go into detail as it's better to watch it :)

One thing though, you'll probably understand why I like Kazu-chan (main male lead) so much when you see the last episode (and the rest of course, but the last episode really is what sealed it for me).

Meh, I'm going to stop rambling now. Suffice to say I loved the show :D

shadowlord_756 2006-06-28 00:28

I think someone mentioned Fate/Stay Night, I supposed since you watched shakugan no shana you would like it too but it's a bit more drama and action focused.

For good storylines, Air or any other key work would be pretty good they're half drama/half romance bit more of the drama side. Also try KGNE if you like that genre

Da capo and it second season if you just want something light hearted to watch (its a harem anime).

and if you watch fate/stay night and like it you might also consider tsukihime, less comedy and kinda darker mood compared to f/sn though.

andromeda0201 2006-06-28 01:02

Here are my suggestions apart from those already mentioned
Ah My Goddess
Full Metal Panic (especially Fumoffu, but you have to watch the first season to know the characters)
Gakuen Alice
Ginban Kaleidoscope
Kage Kara Mamoru
Onegai Teacher
Onegai Twins
I My Me Strawberry Eggs

Akeval 2006-06-28 06:00

My question is...is there anything like chobits other than DearS? i just finished getting that, and at the same time just completed chobits i must say i give it a 10/10 plenty of comedy with a serious and great ending :D im just so sad that animes like that are so short...hence me finishing it in a day. Well id love some suggestions

Oh and also where is there a chobits thread? i havent seen one and it makes me somewhat sad :(

Ah! My Goddess is already in my list.
I'll add FMP, Onegai Teacher and Onegai Twins. Seems like I missed quite alot :D
I'll probably check out the others, but with all the suggestions I've been getting, my computer is getting full.

I wasn't complaining ;)

Akeval 2006-06-29 01:06

heh, so i just finished DearS i liked it alot, pretty cool seemed just like chobits with an altered storyline. i wonder what on that list is also like that...hmm...

None of them, with the possible exception of Mahoromatic, since Mahoro is a combat cyborg and therefore basically fits the non-human female lead, but she doesn't require teaching like Chii and Ren. None of the others are even remotely similar really.

Akeval 2006-06-29 11:42

thats a shame :( i seem to have a thing for stuff like that, i think its more of how the male protagonists actually turn out to be decent non perverted types. i like seeing stuff like that. Although it doesnt have to be exactly like that, i just started Girls Bravo, and i love it :D

Toxic 2006-06-29 12:17

Girls Bravo is a good serie. I loved the banana part :D

Radiosity 2006-06-29 12:31

I'm actually watching that now as well. Not bad generally, though the violence is a bit OTT. And there seems to be something about the name Miharu and bananas; Miharu in Da Capo has a banana fetish as well.

Fate/Stay Night definitely has a lot of action
but around halfway through the fights get shortened and it becomes totally about character development and ,Saber and Shirou's relationship.
it definitely won't dissapoint

Fate Stay Night has hardly any comedy though
the only (small amount of) comedy is from
Taiga, Ilya and Saber

Akeval 2006-06-29 21:03

yeah the bananas were kinda odd... personally i liked that part >_> lalalalala....

oh and also blizzer i think ill be checking that anime out, comedy isnt always needed, but when a story fails to keep me going comedy can keep ya happy :)
