Grand Knights History (New Vanillaware/Marvelous game)

Yes! Beatiful sprites in the palm of my hand.

Yoshifumi Hashimoto, producer on Muramasa, is also the producer on Grand Knights History. This upcoming title is an original RPG and its in development for PSP. Since Prince Crown was a port, Grand Knights History will be the first time Vanillaware created a game for Sony’s handheld.

Grand Knights History is slated for release this summer in Japan.

The stage is set in Gran Knights History for three kingdoms to fight over for control of Ristya. Famitsu’s scan shows King Fausel is the ruler of Logres. Queen Muse is the leader of Avalon. King Leon and another character control the other land cut off by the scan. You are a knight in the army. Before the story begins you get to design your own character. Players can choose a gender, what their knight looks like, and voice acting.

Gran Knights History uses a turn based battle system with royal rules in the mix. A sliver of the scan shows this PSP game has some kind of network support, but the details are also cut off.

I'm certainly pleased with this news. Means there's a future project that my PSP will still be needed for!

Wow, are there many games like Grand Knights History on the PSP? I might have to consider buying the handheld!

The third kingdom is Union and is governed by King Leon and Princess Sefia. Gender may play a role in what types of equipment characters can exist. Pictures show male characters armed with two handed swords and a gun-like weapon. Female characters are magician types or priest-like characters with a hammer.

As mentioned before, the battle system is turn based. Similar to many 16-bit RPGs, heroes are on the right side of the screen and enemies are on the left. In the top left you can see meters for HP and AP. Characters can move around on the battlefield too. Grand Knights History will be Vanillaware’s first turn based game. Tomohiko Deguchi, Director, says Grand Knights History is an "everyone is tied to war RPG." Players are connected to each other offline and online through a network mode. This isn’t the kind of game where you team with friends when playing solo. You fight other players in battle. It seems that all players are locked into the war for Ristya and are fighting for one of the three sides.
Network play huh... gorgeus sprite vs my hatred towards online play. Gotta think this one through.

& as you'd expect, this game looks absolutely stunning. I am in love already.

Plus i'm pleased the creators are returning to the castles and knights theme. Odin Sphere is my favourite by the team after all.

Turn-based huh? I haven't played their games that's into tactics than action like Grim Grimoire...but I think it'll be interesting :heh:
As usual, the graphics are stunning :D

Site opened. For the moment only two songs, but they sound pretty good.

First Final Promise Story, now this. Looks like it's time for me to give serious thought to buying a PSP.

*added to list of games to play* Let's hope it's not as dull as Final Promise Story turned out to be.

The look of the battle characters reminds me a bit of Saga Frontier 2.

PSP? What a waste... Vanillaware games demands to be played on the big screen! I'm just gonna grab a rom.

It's hardly a waste though. :heh:

After SRW ZII, I don't really see game on PSP is a waste, though.

[edit]

I am soooo getting this game.

Xellos-_^ 2011-08-27 14:49

character design looks ff tacticish.

DragoonKain3 2011-08-27 23:10

Iunno, still looks very much similar to Odin Sphere to me. Not that's a bad thing mind you... :heh:

kuroishinigami 2011-08-27 23:36

Seems like a good game, but what I fear is it seems our group of heroes is too generic. I kinda wish for us to be able to play someone with a "name" and some kind of back story instead of random group of generic "common" soldiers.

Ravenblitz 2011-08-27 23:58

Muramasa cameos? i don't mind building my own harem heroes.. yeah looks like Odin Sphere well its vanillaware
