The story follows Eijun Sawamura, a pitcher who joins an elite school with a brilliant catcher named Kazuya Miyuki. Together with the rest of the team, they strive for Japan's storied Kōshien championships through hard work and determination.
It's based on a Kodansha manga was launched in 2006 and won the shounen category in Kodansha's Manga Awards in 2010.

It will air this fall. So who's ready for some baseball anime?

Count me in. Something has to tide us over till Mix is far enough along to get an adaptation.

This is closer to Major than it is to Cross game though. Regardless, I've been following the manga for a while it's an interesting take on the baseball genre. Now we get to follow an elite school instead of the always plucky underdog. :p

You can never go wrong with Baseball.

Nachtwandler 2013-05-10 10:15

Looks like Production I.G. and Madhouse will be working on it

MeoTwister5 2013-05-10 10:56

But I like plucky underdogs with awesomesauce main characters!

Now this will be even more awesome. Baseball + Production IG + Madhouse = WIN.

It would be even more great if they had a director like the guy who did Cross Game or Big Windup. (I'll have to get around to getting Hulu so I can watch those).

Where did you hear that?

Nachtwandler 2013-05-10 17:18

On MAL. But I dunno where did they get the info. They just said that studios were announced.

ANN also supports that too.

I guess one of Kodansha's magazines announced the studios.

You can't go wrong with baseball in anime -- because they take the boring parts out and replace them with plot.

HauntingShock 2013-05-11 23:55

So, what's the official title?
Diamond no Ace / Ace of Diamond / Ace of the Diamond / Daiya no A / Daiya no Ace

It's Daiya no A, isn't it?

I knew you'd fall right in, considering a lot of my friends were reminded of Cross Game (I haven't seen it myself, unfortunately).

But damn, Madhouse and IG, this might be worth watching if only just to see this potentially amazing animation.

Guardian Enzo 2013-05-12 03:46

I actually don't know much about AoD, Lux, but from what I've heard it didn't sound much like an Adachi series. But I'm basically pleased anytime a major studio trots out a baseball or soccer anime, because there really aren't all that many of them when you think about it.

Another sports anime I'm really looking forward to is Yawamushi Pedal, which is quite a good manga. I was expecting it for Summer but not having heard anything, maybe it'll be Fall too. Why the heck doesn't someone do an adaptation of Baby Steps already?

kuroishinigami 2013-05-12 03:52

It's nothing like Adachi manga for sure. It's your typical shounen baseball series like Major. The protagonist in this series is the team though, not the character.

Yowamushi Pedal has been confirmed to start in the fall.

Do you have a source on that?
