parent child relationship

Hi, I'm new here and not really sure how this works, but I'll try.

Does anybody know any anime or manga that is entirely focused on parent child relationship?

-It's best if it's a good relationship.

-Extra points for single parents.

- It's okay if the parent and child aren't connected by blood.

- Adopted child/parent relationship is very lovely too.

- Older brother/sister that takes the place of the parent is okay too.

I wanted something more like Usagi Drop (the anime not the manga, this manga ins't nice) the more it shows of the kid growing and the parent/child relationship the better.

The two that comes to my mind immediately which fits the criteria above are:

- Aishiteruze Baby
- Kure-nai

I enjoyed Kure-nai a whole lot. In fact, I hold it as one of my most favorite anime series in my long list of anime I've watched.

It's not quite as good as say Usagi Drops was, but Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! is this type of series and should fit what you want.

How about instead of a child we have a pet?

Chi's Sweet Home and Chi's New Address concern a kitty who gets lost from its mother and ends up being adopted by a young Japanese family. The son is about three so the parents have to manage both him and the kitty.

Higepiyo has a more edgy script. It's about a bearded chick (the small yellow kind) that has samurai aspirations. He's purchased at a summer fair by another young family. Higepiyo can talk; Chi has no extraordinary powers except cuteness, smarts, and a friendly personality.

Another show that you might like is Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. A pre-teen brother and sister are stranded when an earthquake hits Tokyo harbor. (This was made before the Tōhoku quake.) They are befriended by a woman in her late twenties who takes on the task of seeing them home.

In Seirei no Moribito, a similar familial bond develops between 30-yo spear-wielding bodyguard Balsa and her charge, a young prince who has been targeted for assassination. There are some powerful scenes between them throughout, but especially around episodes 18-19 and beyond.

Like monir, I'm a fan of Kurenai. However the "parent" in this case is a 16-year-old boy who becomes responsible for a seven-year-old kidnapped heiress. Their relationship is wonderfully developed, but I'm not sure Shinkarou entirely qualifies as a parent. I still recommend the show regardless.

Finally I'll recommend the first installment of Otona Joshi no Anime Time, though the story is mostly about the mother and less about her relationship with her son.

I second Aishiteruze Baby even if its art style is very far from being top notch. Never seen a 5-year-old child cuter than Yuzuyu.

I would also read the manga "Flat" which has a ridiculously charming relationship between an aloof high-schooler and his 5 year-old cousin.

With The Light - it's only a Manga, but there was a live action adaption for Japanese TV.

The western release of Mamoru Hosuda's latest feature film Wolf Children arrived at my house in blu-ray format just the other day, and is just what you're describing.

I'll also "fourth" Yotsuba&
