Nope; it's essentially a reboot, so watching the stuff that came before isn't necessary.

Gan_HOPE326 2017-01-08 12:18

Where are you guys watching this? CR doesn't have it, right?

Only the raws are out thus far; no subs or streaming (yet?)

Edit: Ah- Netflix licensed it, which means probably no official subs or streaming until at least one season is done.

I hate how Netflix does that, and I'm glad somebody is going to sub it.

Gan_HOPE326 2017-01-08 12:56

Yeah, Netflix ain't the best when it comes to anime. I don't know why they do that, knowing that they're going to have the competition of weekly fansubs.

Ah so excited! I've been waiting for this series ever since I watched the short films

Well, if that's the case, hooray :heh:! I'll look forward to it (though probably I'm going to miss tomorrow's episode 'cos I'll go away for a while and my gf probably will want to watch it together).

If that's the reason I may subscribe back to Netflix. :)

I just watched the first episode and I gotta say that it was as much fun to watch as the original OVA. It was a long time coming, and, if not just for this episode, it was worth the wait! If the series can keep up this level of enjoyment for the whole season, this will certainly become one of my favorite, fun-to-watch animes.

It may not be neccessary, but I'd highly recommend watching the original OVA (not so much the second), which will probably still be better than any of the individual TV series episodes.
