Episode 1
I think this has a decent start with the realistic setting. Haru has a personality that I think I can get used to while the rest of the cast so far seems normal. Rikuo's job at the store isn't something special to brag about but for a character, I think there's a lot of room for development. The art style looks okay and music has a serene like feeling for the show. Curious to see how much they plan to adapt the drama into this series. This first episode sets up for lot of story development. |
Well, Rikuo is your typical college graduate still unsure of what to do with themselves both in terms of a career and relationships, and is just half-heartedly putting themselves out there. I wonder if Haru might end up being the one to bring him out of his shell :)?
Is Haru actually in college? I'd be surprised if Tokyo University let her in when she dropped out of high school, especially so if part of her reason for doing so was because she was tired of dealing with people. And how old is she? If Shinako was her teacher then her dropping out must have been relatively recent, unless Shinako was just like an assistant while still attending college, but then we get that five years ago flashback...assuming Haru was in high school in that flashback and not junior high . I take it Haru not having a family is why she needed to work part-time at a bar even while in high school. Is she still working there :upset:? Wow, talk about the discrepancy from your high school self to your college self. Haru was practically unrecognizable from how she is now. She did look cute in glasses and pigtails though :). Ah...rejected by Kana Hanazawa. Although I'm kind of curious what's going on in Shinako's head. I guess her care for Rikuo might be from a motherly/sister vibe rather then out of romantic feelings, but some of the looks she gave him seemed really receptive or conflicted :uhoh:. So...did Haru fall for Rikou at first sight and that's why she followed him around for the next five years? Or was it just that they just happened to constantly pass by each other and her feelings grew from there :eyebrow:? |
Holy crap. Where has this come from? I hadn't even written out the header line for the "Good" category on my this seasons anime list and suddently this comes along. I have no idea how this came to be but YES!
|
That was really nice. I can relate to Rikuo on so many levels. Except the fact he's got a super cute JK all over him. Yeah, that doesn't happen.
I like Haru a lot already. Harboring a giant crush for someone she barely interacted with for five years is a bit creepy though. Looked like she was pretty much a stalker. I'm surprised Rikuo got rejected in the first episode, but it feels like there's more to this than it seems. There wouldn't be much drama otherwise. Quote:

Spoiler for ep1:

Rikou worked io his courage only to get rejected. He af least got his feelings out there and if the looks he keeps on getting are any indication there might be more ti this.
I like Haru even though her crush does seem a bit much. |

"Can someone who never tried something be called an amateur?"
Sometimes, when life gives you lemons, you just don't want to do anything about it. You'd prefer to lounge around, lie about being given lemons, and settle down on an easy-mode life. That's Rikuo right there... whose sentiments aren't really farfetched. I had experienced it myself. Rejection's some bitter shit, after all. Fortunately, the universe can be quite quirky, and will give you the push to get out of that rut. It will be a reminder of the good things that can happen, a reassurance that the bad things won't be as destructive as it seems, and a warm welcome back on track at the very least. I'm sure that the camera will be Rikuo's ticket to a more fulfilling life. Ganbare. |
Anime is saved.

Read the whole manga a few years ago and on god I never thought Id see the day it would get adapted... so yeah, Im gonna enjoy the hell out of this adaptation :)

The cassette tape and Rikuo's Walkman place this squarely in the Eighties, I think.

That got heavy real fast. I never would have thought that was the reason Shinako rejected him.
