I'm sure many series start out like this, espically when it's not a manga adaptation. A general idea for a show is pitched, main characters are designed and then it's modified as the parent company...

I'm just sad because the same dub group is most likley going to be responsible for Mai Otome as well. I can't see any reason why Bandai wouldn't pick up that license as well. :(
