Thanks for the suggestions. I actually have seen Scrapped Princess and it's one of my favorite series. It's not _exactly_ what I'm looking for but is sufficiently close.

Any series that deal with science vs magic in a somewhat intelligent way? The only one that I know of is To Aru Majutsu no Index, and that was umm not very good. Especially since the "science" side...
