Youve got to take into account artistic differentiation, subtle differences are harder to draw than obvious ones. If it was Izumi's kid, he should look more like his mother that's for sure.

Well what do you expect? OVAs tend to have the same budget has the whole series so you shouldnt expect a similar quality of animation. A few episodes were significantly crappier drawn than the others...
