IGN did an off camera live stream, Amy appears in one of the levels and is essentially a gimmick to clear some of platforming stuff, I think she hammers you into the air.

hm, not for nothing but it sounds like the 3DS version might be a bit better, though I wish I would have been able to play modern sonic in 3D if only for the effect.
