“There is only one place I belong to."
Austin Gloster Abrams, or just Austin as he prefers friends to call him, at 76 years old, aside from the 3 Admirals, is one of the few TSAB 2nd Generations still in active duty, after Graham's retirement following the medium-scaled dimensional Book of Darkness incident. Born in an era where TSAB was just around its early stages of fully implementing the anti-conventional weaponry stance with the emergence of the 3 Admirals alongside importance of the Ground Center in the establishment, he joined TSAB's Ground Force at 15 years old as an A- Ground Combat mage as a Private. In the years to come, he rose up the ranks to being a Major of the Ground Force. However, due to constant stress from overworking, along with the sheer ridiculousness of implementing a close-combat function of that concept in a time where Mid-childan system of magecraft was still not fully concepted for close-combat in any form whatsoever, in a co-op battle with the Navy and the Air Force during AdmiralS, he pushed himself so bad his Linker Core was severely damaged to the point where he could no longer be considered a mage.
He retired as a front-line officer following that incident, and became a drill instructor instead. However, when his...methods proved to be too much for the less-elite Ground trainee mages, he was transfered over to the Air Force as their drill instructor instead. It was due to his methods and practices that the Air Force's trainers in the current times, practice a very harsh training standards for themselves, and also extremely harsh standards on their officers. (( This is why Viva was..criticized in the reports, and Nanoha talked about the Air Force instructor's Spartan methods. ))
Austin Gloster Abrams, even as a child, all the way to his old age, embodies a single philosophy in life.
"If you're not half-dead, you're still perfectly alive."
He knows little of limits, and is the type to keep pushing himself further, further, further and further. He has very harsh standards for people, but before everything else, he is harsher on himself. Even though he crippled himself in that incident, he never once regretted it and merely considered it a different kind of obstacle to climb over. Thus, due to his hard-biter personality, he cannot accept ever being delegated to being a paper-pusher, and constantly gets himself physically strong and active during trainings of the TSAB recruits. He has a very spartan approach to the things he do, and goes to great lengths to do so, be it forcing the recruits to sleep less than 3 hours everyday, (( he sleeps an hour a day )), attacking the recruits in the middle of the night to test their awareness, impromptu missions following harsh training, non-stop 48 hours training.... And it was said that his 2-days personal training regime for prospects who survived his training with a B+ evaluation from him (( generally, the pass factor is D )) is even harsher and more mentally stricken that all of the several months drill camp put together, which was already toned down for majority's sake.
“There is only one thing you all need to engrave into your hearts… go beyond thou self.”
Although he is very military-minded and strict in such dealings, he's generally sociable when things do not involve the need to be alert 24-7. It's just that very few youngsters and people dare to approach him to know him beyond his evil reputation as a life-sapping evil instructor from hell, while his old friends back from his days are either paper-pushing big shot now who are too busy, retired or dead.
“Even a child can kill with just a knife or a gun. If you think for once you can let your guard down simply because you’re stronger, the enemy’s an old haggard, or whatever reason that lets your ego or opinions go above everything I’ve taught you, then you can expect me to be at your funeral or hospital-bed one day…
And don’t expect me to bring flowers.”
Visual Showcase: Mock-battle with AA- ranked Modern Belka Air Force Lieutenant.
Although he is no longer a mage, he is still considered to be one of TSAB's very best in hand-to-hand close combat, even after the emergence of Modern Belka. Ever since his retirement as a mage, he went on to improve every other physical aspect of his capabilities, from knife-combat, dirty tricks in fights, close-combat, bodybuilding, everything that would help him keep in edge even if he's no longer a mage. With that, even half a decade later, he is still physically very very very healthy, unlike his other peers, and is still stronger than any mage out there in close-combat, even after they've been boosted by magic.
