-20th-21st: Encounter with Goa’uld Ra, said Goa’uld dies in the ensuing battle via nuclear bomb, which is supposedly set off near the gate thus destroying it. This is assumed to be the end of it.
MC41:
January:
-15th Another Goa'uld attack through the Stargate
-16th Jack comes clean about not having really nuked the other gate
-17th Its revealed that the Stargate is in fact part of a network and that the attack came from still another planet.
-20th after nearly a week of frantic work the problems with dialing other worlds is solved and a rescue mission is planned.
-23rd Rescue mission recon begins and goes wrong almost immediately.
-24th In an incredible display of both extreme luck and skill SG-1 manages to not only escape but also free the captured prisoners and recruit a high ranking enemy officer to their side too boot!
Early February:
-O’Neil is awarded the first of what will shortly become a chest full of medals.
-The SGC is official formed with the goal of locating technology and resources to defend the planet.
MC41 to MC43:
-Various teams continue to go off world more tech is recovered and magic users begin to multiply while the initial ones are now becoming seriously effective combatants. Several invasion attempts and too many near disasters with Lost Logia type artifacts to count are narrowly averted.
MC43:
Another invasion attempt seems imminent but rumors are spreading about a growing power out beyond the fringes of currently known space that might be able to offer protection. This group turns out to be the TSAB. As expected SG-1 is the first to contact them, largely by accident, and returns just in the nick of time with a small TSAB fleet that scares off the Goa'uld after a short battle. The fight occurs in low orbit though and is rather spectacular, the cats out of the bag…
Mid MC43:
Forced to chose between mind controlling aliens or membership in the loose federation that is the TSAB This Earth chooses the later and becomes the new fringe of TSAB administered space… well a pocket of it anyway as the TSAB proper is rather far off with a large uncontrolled area between them.
A small fleet is stationed their, but most of the planets armies remain unchanged, the handful of magic users already present are commissioned into the TSAB, but remain on the planet effectively forming a new division, due to his ability and experience Jack is accepted straight to captain rank, though he continues to function with SG-1 as a small recon and covert ops team leader. At the same time more large scale open magic training and technological research begins as well.
This hardly marks the end of the planets problems they merely enter a news phase…
MC43 to 53:
Still nearly surrounded by enemies the newly formed TSAB Defense Forces are forced to whether sieges, sneak attacks, spies, and all other manner of attacks. This Earth begins to resemble a fortress world as its garrison bloats and orbital defenses begin to ring the planet... By the middle of this period offensive operations using the increasingly fortified Earth as a base begin to be launched against surrounding areas. Earth also gains a reputation for producing highly effective, if often somewhat crude and blood thirsty, combat mages. More often then not SG-1 is responsible for both starting and fixing many of these various messes and also single handedly brings about the downfall of numerous enemy leaders and groups earning promotions, medals, and quite a bit of fame along the way.
The region also becomes noted for it’s expertise in bomb making and other mass based weapons, something its distance from the TSAB proper and constant threats from outside allows and encourages too flourish.
Its Mark.9 Gatebuster for instance is widely regarded as the most powerful bomb ever fielded by a TSAB member… Not surprising since the design goal was
vaporization of anything within
100 miles of the weapon via sheer brute force. (It’s rumored a fair number are still maintained in secret as insurance weapons since being mass based many magic defenses that could resist even Arc-en-ciel fire would be useless against them.)
MC53 to 63:
Earths expanding local fleet supplemented by additional TSAB ships and newly recruited local allies begins to seriously damage the system lord’s empires. By the end of this period the System lords are basiclly broken and reduced to a minor irritant that engages in occasional guerilla style raids, but no longer really controls space. The entire area is now effectively TSAB space with Earth as its local capital. The region is increasingly integrated into the TSAB and is now a major supplier of ship and combat troops among other things.
MC63-70:
With his home effectively secured and now ranked as a full Colonel O’Neil and most of the troops he’d been with for the previous 20 odd years transfer into the Special Operations branch of the TSAB Air Force where they excel at completing missions and just as often mortifying the locals with their rather militant ways. The lot of them quickly gain a rep as “backward barbarians from the fringe” and such, something they acutally take a perverse pride in.
MC70-75:
Promoted into the General ranks O’Neil assumes command of the Mercenary and Special Operations branch. He maintains his reputation for eccentricity and… directness, and also gains further notoriety as a protector and proponent of often unconventional units and technology.
Notes on this:
- he crashed ship was an ancient cargo vessel that had apparently been trying to leave with the gate following the revolt against the Goa’uld when it lost power and made a rather bad emergency landing. Logs indicate the crew apparently gated out and planned to return but that the ship ended up buried in an avalanche that blocked the gate. It’s probably about between 2,000 and 3,000 years old and is in no way special and was in fact totally obsolete centuries ago. It appears the reason its library was so large is that it was apparently also trying to escape with a fair bit of collected knowledge as well.
- The star gates were built by a small lower tech faction of the ancient but now extinct race responsible for most Lost Logia, but they covered a much smaller area in this timeline with perhaps a few thousand worlds in one section of a galaxy connected to them.
- The system lords were not nearly as large as they were in SG canon; the term “system lord” was often quite literal many of them claimed only a single system as their primary domain with at best small outposts in others.
- The Ancients were much like the canon ones interbreeding with primitive humans and spurring many myths and even some religions, but there was no ascension, the plague wiped them out totally in this timeline. All that ascension stuff always annoyed me and it would just open all kinds of crap in this universe I don’t want to deal with so it’s out.
- The Goa’uld where still a parasitic race, but they used magic to imitate godhood to their often barely medieval level peasant more then technology in this timeline. Higher level Jaffa also used magic, but to a much lesser degree as the Goa’uld feared rebellion if they came to realize they might potentially as much power as their “gods”.
- All of this occurs on the fringes of TSAB space most of it before canon even begins so it should pose little problem in that regard, it was also fairly small scale for the most part. A few dozens ships on either side was a big battle for instance. It also adds a few planets and some back story on their entry into the TSAB and one method they used to expand their space (we’ll protect you from your enemies… If you join our government.)
